hi everyone, looking for opinions on which Polk Audio frt. tower to buy for a home theatre set-up. my 2 options are : RT70 and RTi8 both similarly priced and in excellent condition. I'm running an Onkyo TX-NR509 rec/preamp, Polk CS10 ctr and Polk RT35i mini-monitors in rear. No sub yet, will be ordering an HSU as soon as funds replenish! Listening room approx. 12' X 22', 7"6" ht. Will be used 60% movies/HT, 40% music { hard/soft rock, pop, some metal as well as daughter will listen to some rap / hip-hop :-( }. Any advice on which of those 2 towers is better option greatly appreciated!

Neither; I'd get the subwoofer first as it's going to add a whole lot more impact to your system.

thanks for advice..

thanks guys, I'm going to order an HSU "VTF-2 mk4 sub, likely on their Black Friday sale next month, will run me approx. $750.00 + 200 s/h, dutys at Canadian border. I have found two local sellers for the polk towers tho for $160.00 / pair, each in excellent shape so I want to grab 1 set of them now, and I'm leaning towards the RT70 at this point. further thoughts?

I'd rather get AJ's Pioneer 2012 speakers, than Polks, but thats just me
Why don't get sub from CA store instead?

I'd check out SVS; they do have a Canadian distributor, Sonic Boom Audio, so you might be able to eek out a better value there.

Edit: Beaten to the punch by BSA. Curses!

Price certainly isn't bad, and given that you presumably like the sound of your current speakers, it's not a huge risk.

thanks guys

Thanks again to all for the useful info. Yes I truly like the sound from the Polks for a "mid-fi" setup, much better than Klipsh/Energy/Boston that I've heard in these price ranges, IMHO. Have any of you bought, or at least auditioned the Subs offered by HTD? I'm not a fan of SVS, or Velodyne as a couple friends have them and they left me less than impressed.

I can not speak for the HTD subs - however, I would still look
at HSU. One thing about HTD subs, you can swap the amp out
for a more powerful one. Their 12" sub, does look interesting.
