Help with my mitsubishi dlp 73833

I need some help with my mitsubishi dlp 73833. It has been working fine but a couple days ago I turned it off and when I turn it on it does not recognize my hdmi connection, so I have to unplug hdmi cable and plug it in to a differenet hdmi connection on the tv. It also resets all my settings such as coloring. I have tried differenet hdmi cables and I get the same results. I am using a a onkyo reciever and have never had any problems except now.

Could it be that this specific port simply doesn't work anymore?

If it actually does work, when you go "back to it", you know unplug/replug, then I might start playing with the ordering (and delays) of which components you fire up first. I think you should try TV first, wait a bit, then fire up the source with HDMI plugged in.

Colors are different between HDMI inputs because they likely have different default and/or custom settings. This allows you to dial in settings for different sources if desired. You'll just have to dial in the 2nd HDMI input settings to match the 1st.

Its not the port I have gone back to that port it it works. The color settings and setting for normal, or brillant keeps reseting also. If you have any other ideas please let me know. It did say something like can not hdmi switch on the screen. Not sure what that meant, like I said I have had this tv for 3 years and have never had a problem. Is there something in the receiver I should change?

It sounds like it's a TV problem, no? Forget the receiver entirely, use the process of elimination, and start plugging sources directly into the TV. My bet is that it's the TV. My greatest fear right now is something like a failing motherboard or something (I don't know how TVs work), because that will pretty much mean that it's time to replace the whole thing. After eliminating the receiver and seeing that the problems continue, I advise contacting the mftr for troubleshooting tips, and/or ideas on what the culprits might be, with hopefully on idea on the cost of the fix.

I have the same problem with mine too. I had mine all setup fine and then I decided to change my AVR out and couldn't use the HDMI1 port. It's like the TV has built in smarts that is trying to help you by trying to remember or reserve the settings. I connected it to the HDMI2 port and it worked again.

A few weeks later I decided to rearrange my HT cabinet and tidy up the cables and the same thing happened again. I couldn't even get my AVR to recognize the cable box on the same SAT/CBL port so I had to use the DVR port. I know you can reassign the ports and all and I even tried resetting it back to factory defaults. Eventually by turning it off and leaving it off for awhile I was able to get it to work with some different configuraton of ports that I didn't like but it worked.

I used to do computer programming and would just like it to do the logic that I tell it to do instead of the device trying to be so damn smart.

I had this same problem before on a dlp a couple years back, but can't remember what I did to fix it. I thought there was some kind of setting in the receiver. The tv seems to be working fine other the stated problem. Thanks for all the help

Your mainboard might be going out. Did you do any firmware updates or check for one?
