Old school Linn Helix LS 150 speakers for home theater system?

Hello everyone and thank you in advance for taking the time to help me with my question(s).

Ok, so I bought a MartinLogan MLT-1 5.1CH Home Theater Speaker System and then I got to thinking. Why not use my old Linn Helix LS 150 speakers as the (2) fronts and turn the 5.1 into a 7.1 system? Here are my questions:

  • Are these old Linn Helix LS 150 speakers superior quality to the MartinLogan speakers even though they are almost 30 years old? I should mention I replaced the old Linn speaker wires with Linn K400 speaker wires last year.
  • If the Linns are better, will they work from a compatibility standpoint with the MartinLogans to form a 7.1 system?

Finally, in regards to my receiver. I had originally chosen the YAMAHA RX-V473BL 5.1-Channel Network AV Receiver before I thought of the Linns. If a 7.1 system makes sense using the Linns, will my new receiver choice of the Pioneer VSX-1022-K 7.1-Channel 3D Ready A/V Receiver have any issues driving both the Linns and the MartinLogans at the same time?

Once again, thanks in advance for helping take the time to help me make a good informed decision. All (3) bolded items are from NewEgg and since I am a new member I can't post the url links...:(

Thanks!!

So after educating myself a bit, here is what I am leaning towards:

YAMAHA RX-V673BL 7.2 can be had for $339 on newegg (after a $210 gift card is mailed to me). I will use that gift card on the MartinLogan MLT-2 5.1 instead of the MLT-1 5.1 speakers which are $50 more. Both will be combined $639 which is a great price imho.

This way, I can future proof my purchase a bit and go 7.1 regardless of my old speakers if I decide to in the future. Still would love some feedback!

Thanks

The Yamaha 673 is a better choice.

However using the old Linn speakers, with the small Martin center speaker,
will be a poor match for home theater. I would aim for larger speakers than
the Martin Logan system, for the over-all Home Theater set-up.

Depending on budget, you can build sections at a time.

So in your opinion the Linns could work as fronts but consider building a more robust speaker system around them?

I would prefer to use the Linn's as stereo music speakers, and have
a seperate 5.1 movie set-up.
