I'm from the Netherlands, i'd love to listen and thanks for the very kind offer but i hate flying...however....you're free to come over with those statements so i can have a listen ;) :D
Interesting that you're buidling the ER18s, wondering how those will compare to the full statements.
The original plan was to go for the full size statements, but my ever so caring GF would stop caring and shoot me if i'd put those in our living room...the mini statements barely pass her judgement but with some extra TLC from me she said yes.
But now i have the hots for the ER18s.
Think i'll be going for the dome version, which already is giving me headaches cause it seems all the part sellers in Europe only sell the A-4 version of that tweeter, and not the F-4.
I'd love to get over there but don't see that happening any time soon!

I understand what you're saying about the girth of the full Statements! You truely have to be a audioholic to put those in your living room! I honestly don't know how the ER18's will compare, but I can't wait to hear them!! As far as the ribbon goes, it sounds amazing in the Statements. I've heard people like the sound of the dome in the ER18 better and it cuts cost by $80, so that does make sense to go that route!

Hello,
Ive started to build this pair of mtm speakers, but ive noticed that im going to need a new amplifier, to ensure that i get my monneys worth of the speakers. Im lacking a lot of knowledge when it comes to amplifiers, so i was wondering if you guys could help me out. Since these are the exact speakers im building, i figured this would be the best place to ask. Im running a tight budget, so the price should preferably be below 600 dollars. Educate me!
Sidenote: I dont live in the US, so prices might be a bit higher, and even though i might import from other countries in Europe, shipping from the US is quite expensive. Therefore american indy brands are off the table.

I apologize if im posting this in the wrong place, but im not looking for another DIY project just yet.

Are you looking for an amplifier or an integrated amp? At your price range, i'd ask you to look at NAD or Rotel, both of which should be available around the world. Also, recently i heard a chinese hybrid integrated Yaqin Vk-2100 and it was very very good. You can buy this from ebay for about $300.

The Crown XLS DriveCore 1500 is $399 U.S. Dollar and has a built in X-over so you can later on add subs and set the X-over point for your speakers.

It's a no noise design with a lot of power reserve and even 2 ohm stable.

Welcome and good luck with your build!

The good news with these speakers is that they are not difficult to drive. They don't require high power, but are capable of handling high power.

You didn't mention what amplifier or receiver you now have, but nearly any moderate to high powered amp or receiver now available can drive them. 50-100 watts per channel can drive them to satisfying listening levels, and 100 to 300 watts per channel will drive them to very loud levels even in large rooms.

Thanks for the response, ill check out the mentioned amps, and ill see which one seems most appropriate for me. Im glad you mentioned that they handle quite a bit, but sound good even with a pretty low powered amp this really loosens up the ties, i think i have an idea of what im looking for if the other proposals dont work out.

Even I am about to make these. Currently I have a yamaha 663 avr, it can do 4 ohms. I am also looking for a suitable 2 channel amp for these, but would like to make my own from either parts or kits. Any recommended diy amps for these.

I'd recommend Hypex Ncore, but that would cost twice as much as the speaker itself

Thinking of letting someone else enjoy em

Hi
I built a pair last year and they are Great speakers in every way. Even though I enjoy em I am moving to electrostatics, so I have decided to let some else have these at a really good rate. I would put them under for sale but the site won't let me post. Anyway, e mail me for pics and info. Also I would be glad to let anyone know more about their sonics. and other speakers I have or had to compair them to. One GREAT SPEAKER! my e mail is LHUNSIC105 AT CHARTER DOT NET

You might get some responses if you tell us where you're located and what your offering price is.

Which tweeter did you use, the ribbon or the dome?

Some people may be reluctant to send you an email for fear of phishing. If you post here 4 more times, you become eligible for private messaging which doesn't require revealing an email address.

I think there also is a 5 post minimum before you can post photos.

The pairI I built has the ribbon tweeters and i am located in Asheville NC. The cabinets are solid and built to spec however the finish is just a semi gloss painted black. They do sound very good and I would take $475 for the pair. I am well known on audiogon and have great ( hundreds) of positive feedback. My id is lhunsic105 I haven't posted here so I guess I will need to get a few under my belt. Thanks for the info. My referance speakers are Soundlab electrostatics with the PX Membranes.

The speakers come with bottom points and very good input connectors. Eventually I would like to list them for sale in the Classified section. Some one will get a GREAT buy.

That is a very very deal for someone who is on the fence on this. If only this was available a couple of months back. I paid full retail from meniscus audio.
A few pics could greatly help though.

I have interest but most still on the fence. I was thinking of listing on audiogon as I have 100+ of positive feedback. I have box's so I can ship however they weigh about 75 lb each. will post pics there.

Hi there. I am new on forum. I was very interested to build a MTM with ribbon speaker from stonessoundstudio.com.au ( fountek kits-models 882/ 880) when I have found this interesting thread.
I am thinking about using Dennis/Paul MTM fountek neo cd 3.0 project but with homemade steel rectangular or square faceplate. I want to keep original dimensions between low/midrange speakers but I would like to move the tweeter in the middle of front baffle ( like in 882/880).
Does it going to affect much on sound? Is it possible to do some changes in crossover without measurements?

I don't understand what you mean when you say "rectangular or square faceplate". If you intend to change the width of the cabinet and faceplate, you should avoid doing that. It is important for bass response and low end behavior of the tweeter that the front panel be 9" wide.

If you keep the overall dimensions of the speaker cabinet front (9" wide × 44.5" tall) and keep the spacing between the woofers and tweeter as shown in the diagram, changing the tweeter from offset to centered should not matter much. It is possible to see minor differences in measurements, but it is not clear if this is audible or not.

I looked up the speakers you mentioned RIBBON SPEAKERS KIT INFO. I think I understand what you asked.

Those rectangular or square face plates on the 882 and 880 models are how those tweeters are built. The Fountek ribbon tweeter has a round face plate.

In the ER18 MTM design, the tweeter should be mounted flush with the front panel of the cabinet. The crossover was designed with a flush mounted tweeter, and that should not be changed.

It's a little difficult to see, but it is possible that those kits you mentioned are not flush mounted.

:) Sorry for that. As You guessed I mean- change the faceplate in neo cd 3.0 from round one into a shape of rectangular or square/ like it is in NeoCD2.0 or NeoX 1.0.
I want to keep all dimensions ( and flat front of loudspeaker/ not like it is in 882/880- tweeter deeper than woofers), but I would like to move the tweeter in the middle in one vertical line.
I heard that there is some program that can calculate what changes should be made in original crossover, so maybe it will be possible without loss of quality in sound.

Ps. Sorry for my english  what do You mean saying "flush mounted"?
