Speaker comparability

Hi as I'm new to AVR I hope someone can share their experiences with me regarding this:

I have a Yamaha RX-V471 AVR with this specs:
5-channel 525W = 105W x 5 (6 ohms, 1 kHz, 0.9 % THD); 675W = 135W x 5 (6 ohms, 1 kHz, 10 % THD, JEITA)
I am wondering if I can have it connected to 8 ohms speakers and if it will produce louder sound with the 8 ohms speakers.

TIA

No, but I wouldn't sweat it. Just go ahead with the 8 ohm speakers. Your receiver will love you for it.

I really love that 10% distortion figure.

Nominal Impedance is almost meaningless, almost always this number should be closer to minimal Impedance...

8 Ohm speakers are easier for your amp to power, however speakers with highest efficiency will be loudest at same power level..

yea - anything with 10% THD - is useless - since anything over 1% is easily noticeable

Worth saying that I had a Kenwood home theater in a box kit when I first started out. The speakers that came with it were terrible! Just lousy stuff. I then went to some really nice speakers and a new receiver. The speakers showed up first and I went ahead and hooked them up to my old cheap Kenwood receiver.

Wow! What a difference some quality speakers made when hooked up to that cheap receiver. It was a dramatic difference in having good speakers. I'm not sure if the receiver could drive them louder, but the speakers themselves sounded so much better it really did not matter at all.

My speakers hissed on the old home theater box I hooked em up too. So don't get too cheap. :D I did however find a 60 dollar receiver that sounded as good as the one I have now.
