I was looking for a source of some less expensive Speakon's.

Monoprice has a generic version of these only available on already terminated cables.

The 3 footers are $3.62 in 2-9 quantities. This put's the connectors at just $1.56 :D And you get three feet of 12AWG in a really thick and rugged jacket. (hook up wire for internal cabinet wiring).

The Pros: (Outside of price) is the thumb actuated release vs the sleeve release on the Nuetriks and the fact that with the Nuetriks you have to get a jewlers screwdriver involved to expose the screw terminals after assembly. With the Monoprice you just simply take the stress relief collar off. I have fought with the Neutrik on more than one occasion to get the connector back apart.

Good info!

And the SpeakOns are just screwed on, which makes the wires easy to cut to length.

Another thing, it's bloody hard to find black-jacketed large-gauge twister-pair speaker wire. So these would be a good source not only for the SpeakOns, but also for the wire. (And even if one tosses the ends... ~60 cents a foot for jacketed 12/2 is only expensive in Monoprice-land.)

I'm curious what you mean by "need a jeweler's screwdriver..." though. I've never had any problem taking apart an ur-SpeakOn, or an SPX model.

Admittedly, my SpeakOn use has been exclusively in controlled temp/humidity homes. And the Neutrik made-in-Liechtenstein models, not the knockoffs that Monoprice has to be using at those prices.

There is a counter sunk release tab that you have to hit with a jewelers type driver to get the gray locking body to release.
