Hi guys,

firstly im going to try out 2 diffrent amps before i decide to sell the JTR Speakers. The UPA-1 were running the B&W Speakers and even at that time i was not happy with this amp during playback with movies.

Im using Oppo 95, Audio and Video connected via HDMI through the Onkyo Processor.

The room size is 6meter by 6meter im sitting 4 meters away from the speakers.

being in Indonesia i cant not test out speakers as same as those who live in USA. I would appreciate any advice on Theatre Speakers which are going to give me the dynamic headroom needed for theatre grunt but also provide the finesse of high end speakers?

There is the rub....

There is always a trade off between the 2 different type of speakers - highly dynamic for large SPL and subtle intricate accuracy....

You are talking about a relatively small room here... 2600 Cu ft ?!? How loud are you trying to get here... I have pretty inefficient speakers in a room about the same size and it can get louder then I would really want or need it to be.

I'm running Salk speakers and 18" sub..
Accuracy and detail is as good as you'll ever get....

Is this room sealed, or open to other areas?

No, there isn't.

The only material tradeoff is that a a highly dynamic speaker is going to be physically larger for a given bandwidth than a silly little toy speaker (like the 7" 2-way) will be.

Your entitled to your opinion, and with what your saying is that all speakers sound the same... Sorry, I will never be in that camp.

We will have to agree to disagree.

Have you EVER heard the JTR's...? And what 7" 2 way speakers are we talking about...?

No, I'm not. And no reasonable person could get there from my words.

I'm saying all speakers of an inferior design (the "7-inch 2-way toy") sound crappy.

Have you EVER heard the JTR's...?
No, but I have heard speakers of similar (admittedly probably better) design from Tannoy that are much more sensitive and do the subtlety thing better than pretty much anything one can find at the typical so-called high end audio parts dealer.

The JTR's have a chance of sounding good, in a way most so-called high end speakers don't.

Who cares? Nothing in that configuration can be worth a damn, except for nearfield or background use.

Everyones needs and wants are subjective.....

A small room such as the op has is nearfield, and its obvious that he himself feels the jtr's are lacking in finesse.

Bassfeen, have a look at Seaton Catalyst 8c's to give you a nice balance of better SQ and highly dynamic performance...

They come with "toy" 8" drivers that are extremely capable of high spl.

No, it isn't. Though close listening is a powerful argument to use a coincident mid/tweet, because of relative path-length differences.

and its obvious that he himself feels the jtr's are lacking in finesse.
Based on what? That he's not impressed with them when they're powered by an amp that is noisy because it has very high gain?

NEW CAT-8C powered loudspeaker - Seaton Sound Discussion Forum
I agree with you that the Cat 8C's would more likely than not be an upgrade over JTR's: higher quality drivers, prettier cabinetry with at least some attention paid to reducing diffraction, no worries about amp matching because Mark Seaton's taken care of that for you.

Furthermore, a speaker with an 8" coax and two 8" woofers is a far cry in terms of cone area from the 7" 2-way I mentioned. You really should know that.

My room size might increase when i decide to movie into a larger room. I have considerd the Seaton 8c before but the idea of the Class D digital amplifier was just something i did not want.

I cant help thinking how JTR designer could have given options for better driver upgrades on the horn tweeter and midrange.

JTR Support level on email is a bit alarming i never do get responses on time and all the research is personal feeling is leading me to a Danley Setup. I have the Mini Macro speakers and they perform loud clean and with accuracy in sound, the danley speakers are more refined in nature.

My current issue is now choosing between ATI 2007 or 3007. I know these are high sensitivity speakers but i wish to use amps where there is more then enough headroom avoiding distortion as much as possible in high volumes.

Im now changed course and have orderd a Complete Danley setup. I have already purchased the Amplifier but its on route via sea....so thats approx 7 weeks from delivery.

Did not want the Mark Seaton speakers as its powered, prefer passive for this setup and few people have complained with the noise floor in the class D amps installed in those speakers.

Exactly the reason I never like amps inside a speaker or subwoofer.

I don't mind active speakers and subs as long as the amps are external (like my Orion speakers). :D
