Im very meticulous about taking care of my discs whatever they may be. It seems though as if some blurays have randomly accumulated these spots that have a layer and have covered the entire disc. I have about 300 CD's 200 DVD's and 40 BR. Im looking for something that can take care of all of them with average use. Are repair solution kits better then the cleaning kit for maintaining your discs. Or does the repair kit have some type of ingredient that isnt recommended to be applied every time you want to thoroughly clean the disc? I figure that once a disc has a nice scratch no kit will be able to repair fully so would not the repair solution kits work better as a cleaner? Im aware there are extra steps with the repair kit option which will not bother me in doing. What products and process are you guys using?? thanks!

Blu-rays have a protective coating already. A soft lint free 100% cotton cloth and water should be used to wipe them clean, from the inside to outside. NO chemicals unless you have major scratches, at which point there are acrylic polishes that are fine enough to use, but you still risk damaging the disc further. Absolutely no alcohol based products.

Those "disc washer" things don't work, so don't bother with them.

I have probably a thousand discs (BD, CD, DVD). I have cleaned a few of them in the last 10 years due to accidental scratches, but other than that, they should not need cleaning if properly stored in their cases or something comparable and handled with care.

Ok ill stick to the water/cotton cloth solution for the blu-rays and be much more meticulous in cleaning them. I have been using water ever since I started buying them. Noticed they are very delicate, any minor smudge and they seem to act up with skips. Just got a new BD disc changer so my collection will be transferred to it in which case it should only need one set of cleaning before everything is stored away in it. I use netflix and receive about 12 dvd's per week in the mail they are always dirty so ill just get some cheap spray with a lint free cloth for the cd dvd. thanks!

Yeah, I hated that about disc media from Netflix. new releases tended to be pretty clean, but older titles were almost always dirty.

Microfiber cloths work well too, despite the fact that they are typically polyester/poly blends.

I agree John, I have used them with a polish called microsmooth, a non abrasive polish for BD and DVD that were practically unplayable from Netflix and Redbox with very good results, the best solution is to just keep your collection from being mishandled and wipe occassionly with lint free cloth and distilled water.
