Bluray movie "The Bank Job" with Jason Statham will not play anymore in either of my Bluray players??? I install it and after a minute or so a screen pop's up Can Not play Disc???? When we purchased it a few months ago it would play on my seldom used 1st generation Sony BRP(bedroom system) and my Samsung BRP BD-P1600 that is wireless WiFi and has auto updated all firmware upgrades in the last two years. Both these players play ALL my other Bluray movies just fine??? The Disc is in mint condition just looking at it. I was bulk eraseing a R2R tape a few weeks ago but was sure I was away from anything that the demag might hurt. Why would a movie disc do this???

Hard to say. I've only run into one disc like that so far, that wouldn't play in any of my players. My guess is it is a bad disc.

The one that happened to me was a Neflix disc. Nothing wrong with the surface either, so I sent it back and didn't re-rent the movie, so I never found out what the issue was.

Are you positive you didn't accidentally coat it in clear nail polish?

(This whole problem is very weird)

Do you do stand up comedy?:D that is like accidently swallowing a D size battery. I think I would remember that.:)

LOL. That's an odd, totally random question but I get that it is a random problem as well. You didn't accidentally wash this disc with acid and then rub peanut butter on it and then try to play it did you?

Did you accidently drop a hit of acid dipped in peanut butter?
Come on Guys ...I am stumped why a new BRD played just fine one day and now it will not play on either of my BRP. My wife does not think we played this movie in the bedroom on the Sony until it would not play on the Samsung. So maybe the new firmware update that I clicked on for the Samsung (WiFi) does not like this disc and my older Sony player has 5 year old firmware in it. I need to try the disc on another newer player I guess and see if it still works at all.

Yes I was very much joking with the last comment...

I have an idea, it's a terrible one but the only thing I have come up with so far. It's possible, albeit infinitesimally unlikely, that at some point in the stamping process a light sensitive chemical got left on/in the disk. This could explain it working for a short period of time and failing now.

The most likely cause, if it is the disc, is that it wasn't quite burned right or the disc itself was not perfectly clear and maybe causing read errors. It is well known that some players/drives just don't like particular media and/or burn speeds. In 2009 we ran into this with Autodesk too as I work at a reseller. We took a LOT of calls on their discs not being able to be read by certain drives. Fortunately they also offer download as an option and they subsequently switched to USB drives for future releases.

Reminds me of those 48hour dvds at the truck stop. Open the foil and the disk deteriorates over 48 hours till it won't play, then you just trash it. They made renting movies environmentally unfriendly.

I had a disc (DVD) do this before, but it was clearly dirty. A quick spin in the CD cleaner and all was well, but your disk looks good, I'm stumped.

Just to be on the safe side, other BDs still play just fine on both players?
If so, something had to have happened to the disc.

Yes my others play fine on both players?? I do have a few newer BRD that the Sony won't play, that the Samsung has always played. Samsung has WiFi and has updated the firmware several times in two years. The Sony is 4 or 5 years old and been updated one time. I will post up when I get my Bluray movie over to a friend that has a newer Oppo player. My neighbor said it may be the firmware Samsung updated last month. I don't remember now if I ever played The Bank Job in the bedroom system (Sony) until the Samsung would not read it.

Well, if the Samsung has a month old firmware, you need to update it. Today, the BD is very prone to needing new firmwares frequently, like a computer.

Samsung sends me the updates on the WiFi, I think I have the latest one now. I will go to the Samsung site and look. I did not have time to take the movie to a freinds and see if it works on his system yet.

Yes, it updates on the WiFi but I am not sure if it is done automatically or not. You may still need to initiate the update.
Good to check the player which version it has and what is the latest version on their website.

On my panasonic it pops up and tells you new FW is available, but you have to manually initiate the update.

Ditto on my Samsung................ I loaned the Bluray to my friend and he has a late model Panasonic BRD player and it will NOT work in it either. For some reason a CLEAN and NO marked Bluray disc will not play. It is flatt and in mint condition?????? It worked the first few times when we got it new from Amazon months ago where will have purchased dozens of them at.

Well, it is time to call Samsung and hopefully they can resolve it. Is it possible to rent the same BD disc and see if the rental will play? It sure looks like a disc that went bad.
