I think that I just peed a little.

Darn you guys. I was so happy. I was so sure that my system was sufficient. And then I see pictures of those subs.

:D J/K - that sub is sweet! Congratulations!

18" LMS ftw.

But for you only a horn would do. ;)

Once the specials go "live", it would be a prime candidate for the "deals" section on the forum with its own dedicated thread.

Some nice looking subs. I like the looks of the 18.0, but I'm not a fan of how the Pro18 driver looks (it's the free upgrade for the special). I'm guessing that it must perform better, though.

Each of the three drivers have there advantages and what is best depends on the application, output goals vs. frequency response, use, etc.

The 15.3 with upgraded amp looks like something I might be interested in. I had a B&W ASW750 that went tips up and I need a replacement sub (or two).

Is the 15.3 a new product? Does anyone have any first-hand experience with the 15.3? I have a big room that looks like a bowling alley with the HT on one end, and I am wondering how the 15.3 might go with my B&W N804's.

That's amazing. What is the venue you plan for such a monster?
Not mine - that is something Ricci, the guy who does Subwoofer measuring built to see what an LMS would do in a horn...

That thing IS a monster...

Well, that explains it. I would guess two of them could rock a mid-size auditorium. It would also seem to make a great sub for bass players during live performances. The problem would be the moving crew & van you would need to transport it. :)

Like I said earlier man, one to one the driver with less compression (the TSAD) should have better performance, but eight to eight, where compression would be less an issue, i'd still wager you'd prefer the heavier driver :p

Anyways that sounds eerily like a Lambda Motor.

A little different than Lambda, but similar goals and philosophies.

As for 8/8 driver comparision, it all depends on how close one is to useing the avaiable headroom, and conversly to multiple drivers reducing the issue of compression(still dependant on system output level), it also reduces the need for higher cone travel(agian still dependant on output level). The proverbial glass is half empty(in one aspect)/half full(in the other aspect), in one to one, and half full(in one aspect)/half empty(in the other aspect) in 8 to 8 comparision.

What are you refering to when you say heavier?

In my mind I had something like a Maelstrom or an Re XXX but technically I was refering to the LMS-5400. I meant strictly in a home environment so I don't see driver headroom as the issue with eight of them (maybe wall current headroom  ), and the heavier drivers will plumb to 5hz depths with more efficiency.

I thought thats what you ment,

As I said with enough drivers same difference applies to the low end as the difference of one driver on the top end. With multiple drivers low end efficiecy is overcome just as high end efficieny is, conversly. Like it always comes down to is application. Every application has different requirments and will determin the best solution

nathan, i think we 're on the same page...
my primary point was that if you're hearing major differences between excellent drivers.. that's cool, but when you get to many of them [cost-no-object], those differences become minute. i do think that low end sensitivity in the 60 db range, even with many, is more difficult to work with than midbass efficiency in the 80s... the thermal demands take a back seat to the actual available wall current and amplifier power. for a few i like the tsad but for more see the less need for LT boost to start to edge out as even mediocre 87db sensitive drivers will have ample headroom.

i'm also an advocate of multiples for the room response benefits :p

overall everything is application specific so i just dislike blanket statements.
