best reciever in the $350 range

looking to upgrade from a sony 510. im getting a humming noise and have tried everything to stop it thinking the receiver is bad. i would also like something new. the system will have a dvd player hddr directv using ipod for audio speakers are polks only need 5.1 . i did a search but some of the suggested receivers were outdated. thanks in advance

That's pretty close to the price of a Denon AVR-1712 and if you get lucky you might even find one on sale for that price. If that's too much then an AVR-1612 can be found for $300ish. Both have Audyssey MultiEQ room correction.

i was big in to car stereo years ago kinda new to the home audio have always bought the theater in a box lol wanted better sound have some polk bookshelf and a mid-range polk sub and mid-range center. im a little confused about the hdmi thru and switching i assume the receivers in this range will allow the audio thru the hdmi cables? i know i dont need the best of everything for what im trying to do but you advice from people who know is awesome to have

In general Denon makes very good stuff but like anybody else I guess they can get a batch of bad components. What I would not do is buy one of their refurbs because I'm not sure how thoroughly they test them before reselling them. On the other hand I've had great luck with Onkyo refurbs.

Yamaha RXA800. It's closer to $400, but it is the adventage series.

dont think i wanna go that high mainly gonna use for movie night with fqmily and sports torn between the ONKYO TX-NR509 for 200 and the YAMAHA RX-V471 for like 260 i know ill only use 5.1 the onkyo has ethernet not sure if ill use it lol

Only suggested it because it is very expandable, has it's own version of Audessey, is 7.1, has preouts, multi zone...
