Uh Oh, I did it...Wife is...

I've been going round and round with the wife over replacing our 8 year old projection tv for about the last year. She seemed to be closer and closer to ok with the idea. So I pulled the trigger on it this morning. Ordered a Panasonic 65" GT30 from Amazon last night. Best price around that I could find by a good margin and a better price than many are selling the ST for.

So I told the wife this morning. She was a bit shocked. I wonder if I am in trouble now. I told her I tried to remove it from the shopping cart on the webpage but hit the wrong button and now it's on it's way. She called me a liar and accused me of setting a bad example for our kids. I claim it was a good and plausible work of fiction.

Oh well, if I'm stuck on the couch, at least I'll have a kick-*** tv to watch. :D

Scheduled for delivery next Wednesday.

Any advice upon it's arrival? I do plan on letting it warm up to room temp before hooking it up since it is now December (as I do with all my electronics that I don't want to kill). But I've never owned a plasma before. I do have a calibration disk that came with the Oppo blue-ray player.

A nice dinner out with the woman or something like that also might go along way to smoothing over the cracks.

*I just ordered my new TV too, but she already knows about it :)

Spend the weekend with her watching chic flics along with a bottle of her favourite wine and you'll be back in her good books in no time.

Congrats BTW. :)

Since it's a plasma, you need to let it break in for the first 100 or so hours, so that means don't turn the brightness or contrast up too much and make sure there are no static images left on the screen for too long. Burn in shouldn't be a problem on modern plasmas, but you can still get some image retention for a while, and that may scare you if you get it. Just start your calibration wiht avia or dve and since you spent that much on your tv, you may want to spend another couple hundred to have it profesionally calibrated after it's broken in. Check around on avsforum for some reccomended settings as I'm sure many have gotten that tv dialed in pretty good and their settings will be a good place to start, but may not be the ideal settings for your tv since every set is different.

After reading about plasma screens, both here and online, I went with the approach that I described here.

I think that I actually have Alex to thank for pointing me towards that technical approach. :D

If you took the money out of money that should have been used for more important things[to her] then just do your groveling and for the next couple of weeks just ask her if you can help with anything. If not then grow a pair and tell her to get over it. ;):D Either way enjoy your new set. :)
