I was assisting cleaning out a shell space in our building that we had been using for storage for the past 3 years and came across a Sharp Aquos LC40LE700UN LED TV lying on it's side. They were going to toss it. I asked the maintenance guy what was wrong with it and they said there was a power outage and the TV went out. When the power came back on, all they could get was a flashing green light on the power indicator but no picture. He stated that he thinks the surge caused the power supply to go bad. They had since replaced the TV and since they were going to toss it, I asked if I could have it. I figured if it was a power supply, I could replace it and get a $700 doller TV for for 1/3 the price or just be out a couple of hundred with a hard lesson learned. So I took it home, plugged it in and sure enough, no picture and blinking power light. I showed my wife and she looked at me in disgust and said I didn't need another TV and she wasn't going to let me spend a couple hundred dollars on a power supply that might not fix anything and walked away. Oh Well. However, I decided to google the symptoms anyway and see what else was out there. I read a bunch of links for about 20 minutes and came across some reset tricks. I decided what the heck. I unplugged it, held the vol down and channel up simultaneously and had my daughter plug it back in and BINGO....instant tv. The dang thing works!! The only draw back I found is if the power goes out or I unplug it, I have to do the reset again. Big deal. So I disconnected my 27" LCD tv in my office, set up the 40" freebie and hooked up a bluray player to it and slapped in Ironman 2 and turned it up really loud:D My wife walked in and asked what all the noise was and all I said "Nothing, just watching my broken tv" However, I do feel just a tad bit guilty for getting it for free...

I had one of those for a little over a year - sold it recently. Great tv, and free makes it even better :)

I love it. Makes it a heck of a lot easier to sit in my office when my daughter takes over the living room TV.:D

Congrats! Awesome that you were able to snag it before they threw it away. What a waste that would have been. I'm glad that you get to enjoy it now.

Sweet deal! Don't feel guilty. You should be proud that you kept all of those electronic bits and the plastic out of the landfill. So you were just helping the environment. Yeah...that's right. You were being environmentally considerate. Save the Fleas! Save the Fleas! :D

For your next office upgrade just unplug your living room TV and tell your wife and daughter that it's toast. Christmas is right around the corner and last time I checked the list you were way toward the top of 'Nice' so ...

It's kind of strange that our respective thresholds for guilt can be this far apart.
I might feel kinda weird if I like maybe stole it ... :D ... from my mom.

j/k and enjoy. :)
