now will the MiniVee outperform SVS SB12-nsd ??

so im reading some review on a MiniVee 10 inch and i might conside that one too. anyone own MiniVee 10 inch ? so i think at this point is svs SB12-nsd or MiniVee 10 inch
The MiniVee is a good sub, no question, but I suspect the SVS would trump it. That's the one I would pick anyway...

Velodyne makes a good subwoofer but they are known to be overpriced....well maybe not overpriced but definately not a big bang for your buck company.

On the other hand, SVS being an ID brand, cuts out the middleman. They offer excellent build quality & performance at an extremely reasonable price. You will get more for your $ with SVS.

Both subs will be equally musical but the SVS will have more output capability being a larger driver. Since your area is open, you want that extra output capability. Even if you dont crank it up, it will be working less hard which equates to lower distortion aka cleaner bass!

In my opinion, if i walk into a home with an SVS or HSU or Rythmik sub i think "these people know their stuff!"

When I was searching for a small sealed sub with a $1200 budget, I ordered the X-Ref 12 so I could compare it to others that I purchased/borrowed from a local high end audio store named Gramaphone. I knew Emotiva had a 30 day return policy so I didn't mind having to pay the $35 return shipping if I didn't like it. I compared it to many subs, some of which cost 4 times the price. The cheapest one being twice the price. Im not going to name any names but the X-Ref trumped all but one. Once I turned it on zoned it in and loaded some music, I was extremely surprised to hear that much noise coming from such a small enclosure. After playing around with the PEQ, I was sold as it allowed me to really dial it in. The only sub I thought performed better than it was one that cost $2500. It was noticeable but not worth the extra $1800.

In the end, since my budget was $1200, I purchased two X-Ref 12's and never looked back. I dont understand how I ever even made it will one sub prior to this purchase. Two subs fill out the sound so damn nicely. Its probably the best investment I've ever made to improve my HT.

A guy over in the AVS forums just got a X-Ref 12 to compare it to his 15" DIY and said he is selling the DIY and keeping the X-Ref. He said the smaller X-Ref not sounded nicer but it also had more output.

Before you make your final decision, I would wait on the Audioholics review as I think a lot of people will be very surprised. Someone in the BluRay forums said he exchanged email with one of the guys from Audioholics and they told him they are going to name it the best sealed sub under $700 and that it performs as good or better than some subs that cost 3 times that.

Post 10 the OP says....
Thank you , but i would rather pass on emotiva .
Sounds like the OP is looking more for a boutique style sub and not your typical forum dweller ID brand....nothing wrong with that;)

Why wouldn't you name names? Not comparing the sub to anything else makes your review worthless.
Because I dont feel like getting into a debate or argument with someone who owns one of the subs I'm talking about. Sorry but I've learned my lesson after 10 years of being a forum dweller. You talk bad about something that someone else purchased then be prepared to argue. Sorry but I just dont have the time.

I will say that I heard the Mini Vee in action and that it didn't even come close to the X-refs output. That sub in my opinion is a waste of money. Then again, I dont think any of Velodyne's budget offerings can hang with ID budget subs.

You've basically left us with "this sub is good, just trust me."

Your post has no content whatsoever. You can post a review without engaging anyone in argument about your conclusions.

You're doing us no favors. If you would tell us how the sub actually compares to other actual subs, you'd be giving us useful information. Right now your post is worthless.

Are you serious?! The Mini Vee is perhaps the best subwoofer ever made! How dare you say something disparaging about it!!

Sorry, I just couldn't resist. :p :D

I certainly know what you mean regarding the difficulty of saying anything less than flattering about a product. It's happened to me as well. I am curious though about what other subs you looked at. I may or may not agree with you, but you'll get no argument from me. I personally believe everyone is entitled to an opinion. Of course, I also respect your right to remain silent...

For small sealed subwoofers I really like Bag End:

Bag End Loudspeakers 847 382 4550

Output per cubic foot is very good, but output per unit isn't huge. It's quality of quantity.

Great sounding subwoofers, probably among the best I've heard. At some point I want to get a Bag End 12" for my studio with the INFRA processor.

Also American made, which is important to me as of late.

I also like Dynaudio's subwoofers for musicality. But, not American made and the Bag End's sound better.

I'd at least give Bag End a call and speak with someone there. They're technique of subwoofer design is interesting and sounds like it fits your application well. You end up with a much smaller enclosure than comparable subwoofers. The downside, is for the same output, you need to add more subwoofers. But bass per cubic foot, it actually is extremely efficient.

Thank you for everyone input about all the subs. like i posted before im in a market for a small sub i currently have Outlaw LFM- Plus and i say its a great subwoofer for a HT but i had very hard time tuning it with Viennas for a music and light movie watching. For HT the sub is great with a lot of low output movie scenes . The other thing was the only place that it sound good is in a middle of a hallway to my dining room. Therefore it was too big and in the way . I sold LFM-plus and looking for a smaller sub, that is better music blend with my speakers and also so it have some output for HT. i know it won't be shaking my floor in HT department but im sure it will work well down to 30hz. I did try emotiva gear before , but it didn't really wow me too much. I mean they have good amps for a good price and all and some ppl like them some don't and me being in a middle. therefore i will like to try other brands out there and the is so many of them. The smaller the sub the better so i narrow it down to Dynamo 700 or SVS . I will give a try with SVS first , i can always pic up dynamo 700 at best buy and try it along with SVS and see which one performs better in my room.

FWIW, I have the 12" version of that driver in the 2 cf version of that box. Thing is pretty awesome.

Not sure why you'd get the rack amp instead of the 1000 watt plate amp though. The plate amp is $100 cheaper and appears to have identical specs.

I've read they had some QC issues with the plate version.

Just over $800 DIY option: Cut a 14 1/8" hole for the driver and install some binding posts.

Dayton Audio SWC3-BK 3.0 ft³ Subwoofer Cabinet Gloss Black 302-844

Dayton Audio SA1000 Subwoofer Amplifier Rack Mountable 300-811

Dayton Audio RSS390HF-4 15" Reference HF Subwoofer 4 Ohm 295-468

Better woofer than anything in this price group, amp has parametric EQ and enough power to boost the low-end. Gloss black cabinet that includes a grill.
I've read they had some QC issues with the plate version.

I guess that is why you did not recommend this instead?

Dayton Audio T1503K 15" Titanic Mk III Subwoofer Kit 300-764

I wouldn't exactly call that DIY "small".
