Hi: I'm looking to get a subwoofer within the next few weeks. My budget is between $300-$400 cdn .Speakers are Axiom M-60's VP-150 room size is 19' x 12' x 8' with an opening to another room that is about 12 x 10, given that I'm living in an apartment these are the one's I'm looking at so far

Precision Acoustics 10" 150-Watt Powered Subwoofer (HD S10) $299 (has been on sale at best buy up here in Canada for $180)

PSB 8" Subwoofer SUBSRS1 at 2001 Audio Video for $399 or this PSB 10" Subwoofer SubSeries 5i $499. I have a gift card for $100 at this store so take that into consideration. I'm open to any other idea's out there just keep in mind my budget and do not want to tick off my neighbor's too much with the bass! :D Thanks for any advice

I got an idea that will not break the bank. Forgo the sub and run the Axioms in full range mode. They have more than enough bottom end to be a PIA for your neignbor. If they do, there is no point adding a sub, if they don't, we can start looking :D.

PS. Being an ex-M60 owner and guarantee that the M60's alone will be more than your neighbor can handle.

I agree to hold off on a sub. Run your mains Large+Mains but also invest in a Buttkicker or Earthquake QMB. You mount the tactile transducer to your couch & set the amp under the couch as well. It will get the same signal a sub would but instead of a speaker making the bass it shakes your couch. The cool thing is that its silent but your brain percieves it as sound. You think your hearing way more bass but your not. This wont bother the other tenants at all. Then when you move into a home someday you can get a sub.

I have the Earthquake Sound version & everyone who comes over says it makes movies seem like a fun ride!! Its a hit!!

Parts Express has some other makes as well. All you need is the transducer, an amp to power it & a mono sub cable. Very easy & you can enjoy movies more without bothering anyone!!!

I disagree to holding off sub, but also I won't not recommend getting average or mediocre sub ether.
I have PA-120 - see sig - and I honestly think it should be baseline (not the 10" one)

If you are not afraid of DIY: There is this kit which will produce significantly better sub:

or this would be even easier since it would be basic assembly and just finishing (up to you)

That's a very good observation - Sub should be at-least half of budget of rest of the speakers if not more than that.

19x12 room open to another room - you need be ready to spend at least $800 to $1000 to hope to pressurize your space.

We all have sub-optimized components within our overal systems but those are usually designated for upgrade as appropriate.

To go out and specifically purchase a sub-optimized component, especially one as important as a subwoofer, is just plain ludicrous. Unless you plan on putting this in an office or giving to a poor friend in the very near future...
