I really need help. (2.1 system)

k, so... I've had my eyes on the Swan 2.1 H-System ... but it turns out they don't ship outside US ... at ALL. So I was very disappointed, because I've heard good things about them and they look really good. (I think the design is also very important)

Anyways. I would like a 2.1 system (or 2.0 if they have good enough bass for movies) my budget is about $1200. I live in The Netherlands. I'm just saying that so I won't get any power supply problems and such.

I'm planning to use it with my laptop. For music and movies.

Honestly I'm getting kind of tired of searching, so if anyone can help me... I would be REALLY thankful.

$1200 is imho too much budget for buying 2.1 multimedia speakers...
but $1200 gets you very nice 2.1 separates if you don't mind receiver size..
are interested in such suggestions? (PS: End result would be much better than any fixed 2.1)

Sure I am. As long as I can hook 'em up to my laptop, haha.
Whatever is best.

I recommend two of these for $1000:

GENELEC 8030APM - Thomann Nederlandse Cyberstore

+ this sub... you don't have to add a sub right away but when you do you might as well get a really good one:

SVS SB12-NSD Subwoofer - 12" and 400W DSP - L-Sound EU

Remember, the genelecs do have bass down to 60hz which is plenty deep for 90% of content. The last two octaves (15hz-30hz and 30hz-60hz) can have a positive effect but should really be reproduced by a great sub, not a mediocre one.

Also on the thomann website, look into Adam and JBL LSR speakers... along with Genelec all are a great choice. Maybe you can find a music shop near you that will let you audition one of these speakers for yourself. Also look around for B-stocks. Do get the main 2.0 speakers first without worrying about a sub... a sub can always wait!

Granted Ev is as always brings good and very solid recommendation.
You could use a pair of Pro active monitors and good sub - this one does have ability to integrate

Since monitors usually priced at each $500/each for genelec is bit too expensive
This one is good alternative:
JBL LSR 2325P MONITOR - Thomann Nederlandse Cyberstore - I own them and they ridiculously loud, yet always clear. My favorite speakers so far

k, so... the GENELEC 8030APM are kind of expensive. The 500$ is actually 500 euros. So that's actually above my budget.

So the JBL LSR 2325P MONITOR are you favourite you say? What Sub and receiver would you recommend with that?

btw, sorry if my questions seem kinda dumb... I'm just really new to this, haha.

A receiver isn't necessary with an active studio monitor like the LSR2325P assuming your laptop has a half-decent line level output (USB sound card might help though).

yes, no need for receiver in this setup. Sub - same above ;)

I'd still pick 2325p over smaller genelec due to higher value factor ;) and it has unballanced input - makes it easier to integrated with consumer sub and laptop :D

speaking of laptop - you might or might not need external usb soundcard (or audio interface) - I'd determinate this by getting the speakers first and see if you notice any noise or sound artifacts - hiss/buzz etc.... These are not hard to spot... Most likely if you don't have any noticeable issues - you don't need usb audio interface

You mean this sub?:
SVS SB12-NSD Subwoofer - 12" and 400W DSP - L-Sound EU

If so I'm gonna wait for the sub, and just go for 2 of those JBL's. Get the receiver and sub later.

Isn't the JBL LSR2310SP a good sub?

the svs sub isn't cheap, but we pretty much recommend a good sub or no sub at all rather than a poor sub. If you don't mind a bit of woodworking, you might be able to put together a very potent DIY sub, though....

SVS SB12-NSD Subwoofer is much better than LSR2310SP...

k, that's it... no more recommendations! xD I'm getting those monitors... I'm tired of all those choices.

I think.

But I agree... get a good sub or no sub at all :)

the jbl sub is a vented sub tuned above 30hz. It is designed for high output in a mixing application. for your application i would want a tuning closer to 18hz, and general extension down to 20hz at least if not lower. i would actually prefer the PB12-NSD over the SB-12NSD but it costs more.

ha, that svs sub looks pretty badass. It's kind of hilarious as I have a pretty small room right now. But I thought i'd ask anyway, just to be prepared, yknow? xD

Thanks for the info EV.

You guys saved my day. I was kind of bummed about those Swan speakers.
