Best Receiver for $2500?

your speakers never need to be upgraded if you bought something really good in the first place. Speakers are a better investment in the future, as well as making more of a difference in the sound now.
:D Hee hee....... :D I.. disagree :D
You just didn't buy good enough ones in the first place if you need to upgrade your speakers. (That contrasts with receivers, as they did not make ones with the features I want now when I first bought one [e.g., HDMI, etc.].) I personally do not plan on ever upgrading the audio portion of my system (a bigger and better TV would be nice), though obviously I will replace things if they fail (and cannot be reasonably repaired).

I am currently using the U.S. version of the Aurum Cantus Leisure 2SE speakers for all channels, and two SVS CS-Ultra subwoofers. It is not the best that money can buy, but it is very good and it would be very expensive to get better. And I think it would not be that much better.

For my main two channel system, I use a pair of Apogee Stage speakers, which, again, are not the best that money can buy, but they are very good and it would be very expensive to get better. And I think it would not be that much better.

I am not looking to upgrade my audio, and will only replace things if they fail.

Obviously, if you are the sort of person who is never satisfied, no matter how good one's system is, then you will never feel as I do. But that is a problem with you, not your gear.

It's not a problem, it's just a hobby ;)

Honestly i think i could be "forever happy" even with my $800 EMP e55tis if I just did a bit of an intensive DIY cabinet mod to them.

But there's still something fun about speakers  and I'm of the opinion that while there's a lot of "really really good" speakers out there, there remains no "perfect" speaker ;)

I agree. And that means that replacing a great speaker that one already has with something else will never result in perfection. One must be happy with less than perfection, or one will never be happy.

Also, if one has a great speaker already, there is a good chance that replacing it with something else that is great is going to result in not simply improvements, but some additional or worse vices as well. It is good to figure out which virtues one requires and which vices one can tolerate before one makes the purchase.

Yes, one must be happy with less than perfection, but one can still be happier with closer to perfection ;)

There will never be a perfect speaker as speaker designs are best compromises among most or all variables/chracteristics. Its like building teh fastest car in the world....it has to very light but at the expense of creature comforts. ;)

Until you audition the Sound Fields, right? :D ;)
Who knows?

I told AJ that I would just audition them. No strings attached.:D

Maybe I'm just waiting for those B&W D&D (dumb and dumber) bastards to make the 802 D have ruler flat on-axis and super smooth off-axis response, while retaining it's awesome beautiful cabinet with no resonance in sight.

Seriously, I have no life.
I read a couple of years ago a review that the Arcam AVR600 was the best reciever they had heard at any pricepoint. I was hoping the avr400 would share some of that technology
....
Where did you read this? How do you know it was an unbiased review? If it wasn't, how good can the opinion be?

Some time back, at the NW GTG, I got to experience the Songtowers, Veracity HT2 and Soundscape prototype. Let me tell you, I have been dreaming of Salk Speakers since then. To this day, I cannot decide if active speakers or the HT2's should be my next purchase.

Based on how deep the speaker appears, those might be the Veracity HT2...

Salk is a custom speaker company. Any of their speakers could be purchased active with a DEQX, if you so desire. They might tell you that it's not worth it though, :p

Probably 14.4 in a few years, with speakers being used as speaker stands due to a lack of space
I really need a huge room so that I can put 5 sets of speakers on each side for a total of 10 sets of speakers.

Me too... when constructing a home, every bedroom will be a minimum 18 x 15 if not bigger... That way I can justify tower speakers 4ft away from the wall in every bedroom

My children will grow up, and always wonder why their friends don't have sexy tower speakers in their rooms :D
