Hi.
New to the forum.Hope this is the right section.
First of all , sorry , I know its probably really annoying having first time posters share their problems.

Anyway,:)
I'm hoping there's some people with turntables here.

I have a Dual 505-1 Turntable , it goes through a qtx sound pre-amp, and the pre amp is connected to my stereo w/ speakers.(Samsung MM-26 )
I turn everything on , but there's no sound just loud buzzing from the speakers.
I've tried everything and im baffled

If anyone has any suggestions please help

Thanks

There's not a lot I can find on that samsung unit. What inputs do you have the phono preamp plugged into?

Do you hear any music or just hum?

When the TT and preamp are unplugged from the samsung, does it opearate properly?

Hi
I'm a complete newcomer to TT's and dont understand the first question.
The pre-amp doesn't have any settings just input and output. TT in input & Jack In Output.

I can hear music from the needle but only buzz from the speakers, no music at all.

and yes ive tested every feature on the samsung and it seems to be working great.
Thanks for your reply.

If you want help you're gonna have to help us and think a little.

You can see what you have and what's going on. We can't.

Where the little preamp is plugged into the samsung, what is the jack on the samsung labelled?

Just A Theory

I can only offer a theory based on your description. If you disconnect the turntable and the buzzing disappears, you just found part one of the culprit _ it's the turntable. If it is the turntable, we need to find part two of the problem. First, most turntables have a ground wire that runs between it and the amp. Make sure that is connected and good. Most receivers, amps, and pre amps with phono inputs also have a ground connection. Connect the phono connections and jiggle them to see if the buzzing changes at all. If so, one of the phono connectors is bad. The other possibility is that the cartridge is not properly connected (seated) in the tone arm. Make very certain that you have a good connection there, because that is an area of frequent problems. If the problem persists, there is a small chance that the phono cartridge has "bought the farm" [rare, but it happened to me]. In that case, you have to change the cartridge. Sorry that I can't be more helpful without seeing it. Good luck.

I think there is likely a problem with the turntable. If you disconnect the turntable from the preamp leaving the pre amp connected and the buzz goes away, then I think the turntable is most likely faulty.

Get a multi meter and make sure the leads on the turntable are still OK. The wires on the pick up arm and small and frail and prone to fracture.

Test the four connections at the cartridge and disconnect the wires from the cartridge. Account for all connections from the cartridge leads to RCA plus for continuity.

If all leads are intact with no shorts or discontinuity, then the culprit is likely the cartridge.
