Martin Logan Subwoofer Setup

I recently purchases a Dynamo 500 (Martin Logan) Sub to go with my Electro Motions and VSX-33 (Pioneer Elite Receiver).

Here is a picture of the back of it. Anyone that can help me find cheap and good wires I need would be appreciated.

monoprice is correct. the only cable you need will be one of these cables that will go from your receiver's subwoofer preout to the LFE input on the sub:

or a single rca cable (bottom of the page)

That's it?

I have some digital coaxial cables from ebay. Will those work?

Do I have to plug in a left and a right or just one cable?

That's it. If you have a coax cable with rca connectors that's fine. You only need one. On that subwoofer the proper connection would be to the red input where it says LFE in (and be sure to flick that switch to bypass the sub's crossover).

I will try now!

New subs are always fun!!

Tell us what you think of it.

If you havent done it yet make sure you at least do a sub crawl to find the best spot for it. If you dont know what it is, YouTube it!! It helped me a lot.

Congrats!

I didn't do a sub crawl yet but, it is great. I highly recommend the Dynamo 500. I used a digital coax cable and put the bypass on. It works great. I haven't even turned it all the way up yet!

I have the same sub and I'm using it with a Stereo Amp that doesn't have any crossover settings. I'm currently using a single RCA (sub out) to RCA (L channel on sub - no LFE). I did play around with the crossover and output level settings over a few different genres to get it to where I think it sounds good. Is there a different connection I should try? Would going to the LFE and bypassing crossover be different from maxing out the crossover frequency on the sub?

If there is a subwoofer preout on that stereo amp, is it possible it has a non-adjustable crossover built in?

To be honest, I'm not sure how hooking it up to a receiver or amp without bass management works when there aren't any speaker level inputs/outputs.

It's the Yamaha R-S500. I couldn't find anything in the documentation about a non-adjustable crossover. The trouble I have with using the LFE and bypassing the sub's crossover is that the it starts to sound like a third speaker - that is to say it starts playing frequencies where I can tell the sound is coming from where the sub is and I don't really enjoy that. So, I'm guessing that even if there is a non-adjustable crossover, it's set quite high. So, I've gone back to using the crossover on the sub.

What do you, and the OP, think of the sub? I've been considering one for a while now, but haven't had the heart to replace my VTF-2. Seems like a very capable unit!

A dynamo 500 would not be an upgrade from a vtf-2.

I've only had it for a few days and am only using it for music and haven't done any critical listening yet (perhaps after the 100 hr mark). After some experimentation with crossover and level settings, I've got it to blend well with my wharfedale evo2-8s. As I was experimenting, I was very impressed with the volume output of the sub - it exceeded what I expected based on the numbers. Most of my music works well with it being set between the quarter and half positions (depending on source). I'm not sure how the sub will work for movies though, it doesn't have much of an output below the 35 hz mark. I will switch it out with my HTiB sub in a few weeks and see how it does there.
