need help deciding between these 2. same price and all the same features. denon seems to have more power but yamaha is considerably heavier (better build quality?) i could really use some input from those of you experieced with these receivers. FYI, haven't had a system for quite afew years and am really excited. thought i'ld start with rec. and a couple cm8's and go from there.
i appreciate any imput, thanks.

Both are very capable units. The extra 20 watts/channel that the Denon has over the Yamaha will NOT provide a performance edge over the Yamaha in terms of being able to push speakers louder. It really comes down to which feature set suits your need the best, easy of use, etc. Some people won't look at Yamaha because they opt do theri own room correction YPAO) while Denon uses Audessy. Since a comparison betwen the various room corrections were never officially run, there is no clear winner in my mind. I have an older Yamaha RX-V1800 with a much older version of Yamaha's YPAO than is found on the A1010 and I think it does a really good job correcting room anomilies. I'm very pleased with my receiver and I won't be trading it up any time soon.

I would get a LIKE-NEW Denon 3311 for $654 shipped and sold DIRECTLY from Amazon Warehouse:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B003LVZYNI/ref=sr_1_2_olp?ie=UTF8&qid=1314197866&sr=8-2&condition=used

Full manufacturer NEW warranty (like all the new ones), and if there is anything not 100% right at all, you can return back to Amazon for free shipping.

Or get the Yahama A1000 brand new from amazon for $650:
http://www.amazon.com/Yamaha-RX-A1000-7-1-Channel-Theater-Receiver/dp/B003XDU48O/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1314198046&sr=1-1

Don't worry too much about the receiver. Here is another choice that's cheaper than what you're looking at and pretty functional and PROVEN.

More importantly, you can get much better speakers than the CM8s dollar for dollar. That's where I'd be second guessing if I were you.

I was under the impression that SR6004 had some QC issues in the recent past. Has that been allieviated?

I haven't read any complaints over the past year, personally. It was only a short stretch of time, and it wasn't a QC issue, as much as it was people using a specific cable box or satellite receiver, that was pouring excess voltages into the SR6004's and causing them to die.

Okay, 62% off retail is hard to beat.

And the 1 yr warranty is good. You can also buy the 5 yr warranty for $50.

A4L is also a top-notch company.

Good recommendation.:D

thanks for posts. for me its really down to these two receivers because of their features including 96/24 flac from usb flash and hd. between these i'm concerned about over all sound quality, user friendliness and reliability. also don't get the selection of deals here in canada like in the states (especally after shipping and duty). last week i was in a shop checking out the 2312 (3312 not available at time) through a pair of b&w 684 and cm8's. cm8's to me sounded much nicer and alot better build. going out again this weekend to shop that carries yamaha and marants plus b&w and monitor audio. rx6 or 8 could be nice (gold series looks gorgous but i'm not rich) except for port in front that will probably get filled anyways due to odd shapped living room. hopefully in a couple weeks i'll have made up my mind and be able to talk cash/deal with sales guys.
