It was centered south of here, but I really felt it here.
Desk and pole lamp were shaking for around 30 seconds.

I wonder how long it took the ripple effect to get up here to NJ and points further north?
I'm really amazed at how much things were shaking

It just felt very strange here. Not violent, but noticable. We all stopped what we were doing and looked at each other.

Totally felt it. Building shook for about 30-40 seconds. I went right to the USGS quake site and saw that a 5.8 (now updated to 5.9) hit VA. Took a couple of minutes to get up here. Some of the buildings around mine evacuated.

I didn't feel a thing. (leave it alone Alex...:D)

My wife's building was evacuated. She said window treatments were swaying and plants were falling over but that was it. (thank God)

Hope everybody is alright.

We barely felt it here in blacksburg va, although we did get an email warning after. Almost no one on campus felt it because the buildings are all limestone, but I was in my poorly constructed apartment :p

My brother in baltimore described it as "awesome" lol

It was less than a minute because once we were done shaking I went right to the USGS site and it said that it occurred at 1:51 and it was barely 1:53 when I logged on. We are about 500 miles north. You really had to be paying attention to feel it here. There is not much ambient noise where I am so even just the slight movement was noticable. On the first floor a woman I work with was doing copies and she could not understand why the copier was moving so much.

Ok Rick now you have a good reason to move down to Miami, tell the wife your nerves are shot....you can handle a hurricane, but these tremors are not acceptable, also get a note from your doctor, you know....stating nervous condition requires trip to Miami.;);)

I just got home from work. They closed the building where I work. On the 6th floor it got pretty wierd - like a bad roller coaster ride. The walls and big plate glass windows shook a lot, and the floor was moving like ocean swells for what seemed like half a minute. I felt light headed and queasy for some time afterwards. Driving home (rush hour started early today) I noticed a lot of people driving slowly. They must have felt as disoriented as I did.

I saw no damage or injuries.

I heard on the radio while I was driving home that the Capital Building was evacuated. With Congress out of session there must not have been enough hot air to keep the dome inflated.

Felt it here in southeastern Ohio. Was sitting in office chair at home and felt a weird vibration, kind of like when our old washer used to shake the floor when it was out of balance. :)

You East Coast weenies. That's just a typical Tuesday out here in Cali. :p

J/K - Earthquakes are pretty scary but they can be strangely fun too, as long as no one gets hurt.

I'll keep that in mind when I fly up there.;)
Now, even I can tell that there's a joke in there somewhere.

Who has enough room in their hoo hoo for someone else to fly "up there?"
