First problem: I hooked up my wii to my new denon 1912 over component cables, but don't know where to plug the audio wires in because there is no place on the back of the reciever that says component in for audio.

Second problem: I plugged optical cable into the denon 1912 reciever from my TV, but don't know how to make the sound come on.

The Wii I don't know about. The TV issue sounds similar to one I had. If your TV is like mine, you'll need to search the TV's menu [try reading the instruction manual first] and see if the optical out is switched on. If not, turn it on and that should solve that problem. If that doesn't do it, check to see if the receiver's optical in is switched on. If not, turn it on. Digital connections tend to require some manual labor on the users part to get working.

The remote was working early, but now the remote is not working. I can't get back into the setup menu. When I watched a movie with the ps3 i have hooked up through the reiever via hdmi, it worked fine except it said the sound was in stereo, isn't it supposed to say surround, this is so frustrating. Is there a button that deactivates the remote control or something? what is the amp button for?

Your receiver has a nice feature that allows you to assign jacks on the back to different inputs, and you can also rename what the inputs are called on the front panel. The default input selector for the component video input is "SAT/CBL". If you aren't using that input for anything else, you could connect your Wii to that component video input and the analog audio inputs labeled "SAT/CBL." You could then rename that input to "Wii" so that your new name showed upon the front panel when you selected that input.

It looks like that Denon is set up to play the TV through the optical input by default, so I'd check the TV like bikdav said.

You need to press the "AMP" button to have the remote control operate some of the functions in the receiver, such as getting into the setup menu.

There could be several issues at play here.

First off, keep your owner's manuals handy. Always. These aren't toasters that are intuitive in their operation and a lot of functionality is buried down deep under several menus.

Second, as others have said, many of the audio inputs are selectable and you'll have to "assign" one of the analog inputs to the Wii. Check your Denon manual for this.

Third, and this may be the most difficult, some TV's only send out their optical inputs whatever they generate from their internal ATSC tuner and won't "pass through" anything from other sources. Others might "pass through" a digital signal via the optical out, but it may only be two-channel.
Again, to see what's up you'll need to check your TV's manual for what it does. Then, you may have to assign the optical input on the receiver to the TV.

It's not a simple common sense plug 'n play thing we're dealing with here like it was in the old analog days. It takes a bit of digging though manuals to get the most out of these digital wonders.

Good luck.
