Netflix Splitting DVD and Streaming Subscriptions

The main thing I have been streaming lately are TONS of anime, and they have some very good ones; complete seasons. Series that I've wanted to see for a while but wasn't willing to buy or wait to rent 5 discs, they now have instantly. That way I can try out a series or anime and if I don't like it, move on to the next.
Now that makes sense. I have been meaning to see High School of the Dead for a while now. Maybe my disdain for Netflix will abate some day. But not today.

I actually don't think $16/month is that bad for unlimited streaming and DVDs, except for the fact that the previous price was a much better deal. When you compare that to even basic cable, that's kind of a steal. The services don't exactly provide the same thing, but you get the idea. That article makes perfect sense too and is more or less saying the studios are ultimately to blame, not solely Netflix, for the price increase.

Really greedy. Especially when there streaming service is not very good, small library and the sound quality is not compatible with DTS, Digital sound, etc.
You make a good point. The quality of the audio and video does not match what Amazon on Demand offers. On the flip side, AOD has a very limited library. I get AOD prime service because we buy so much from Amazon that the free two day air delivery alone is worth the price.

NetFlix/Roku also has a really limited USB port. Does not accept AVI files or ISO's. So watching your own personal library from a hard drive or thumb drive is time consuming and not worth the trouble of converting files again.

I tried Hulu+. Unfortunately, they do not seem to have license rights for TV display for most of their library. We dropped it too.

I am open to suggestions or other services available.

I stream on my BD-65 at my other house also, but it lacks the ability to browse and add to your queue via the player. Not a big deal, but you can search, browse and add on the PS3. I do use it for Pandora also though.
We watch it with a wireless laptop on our laps. It updates the queue within two minutes. Problem solved. Plus, one of us is most likely surfing while watching TV.

They have the entire "Highlander: The Series" which I'm going through all over again., not to mention tons of Brit Sci Fi and comedy, including "Red Dwarf" (a bit of both) which I haven't seen in years.

P.S - You're right about $16 not being that bad, but it's the unconscionable 60% increase that sticks in my cheap craw.

I was impressed with the quality of Hulu, but it was also limited.

I have been a Amazon Prime member for a long time, but as mentioned, it is also extremely limited as of now. That will change, no doubt.

With netflix I have more issues with video quality compared to audio quality. It varies widely depending on the content. As I mentioned though, most of what I stream is the kind of stuff that I sort of don't really care if the video is HD. If I want whatever it is in HD with HD audio, I get the disc.

All of the streaming services are in the same boat. To carry more content, it will cost more and that cost will be passed on to the consumer; plain and simple. Netflix is throwing more money at it than anyone else is what I see, and in order to provide the most content, they will need to charge more to have the cash to acquire that content.

They're between a rock and a hard place. Movie distributors want ten-fold increases in their next contract. Without content, they have nothing. It's like a digital entertainment bubble.

My bill actually will be going down a few bucks. :)
Same here. I am picky about the physical media purchase and going streaming only saves me $2 / month and I simply hit my local used DVD/CD shop and give a local guy a hand.

I wonder if netflix will start throwing in a couple commercials in there streaming services soon or raise streaming package price in 2012.

Yes, they are going to raise prices again. Word is that Nintendo accidentally leaked the fact that Netflix plans to start streaming 3D.

So far I have managed to give them less money at every uptick. When I went to Bluray I reigned it in from 3 to 2 at a time. Now I am going to 1 per month and no streaming. I know the message isn't getting through but it's not like I ain't sending it.

Now that I'm like computer semi illiterate I can better use Redbox.

I'll find something better to do with that time.
