I own two Yamaha AVR's and Outlaw Audio seperates. But, if I were to buy now, this Onkyo offering would be hard to pass up on. If, of course, the Onkyo is as reliable as the two previous mentioned brands.

The price gap between the 709 and 809 seems pretty narrow. $200 on a $900 system is just over 20%. In for a penny, in for a pound . . .

I just received mine yesterday and it is a tad overwhelming to be honest. I think there is nothing that cannot be adjusted and worse, nothing that does not need to be adjusted.
Never the less, initial thoughts are very positive, it works well, can be personalized beyond anything I could have imagined. I am upgrading from a Denon and can honestly say the Onkyo sounds a bit better overall with some additional punch and a bit of a better surround involvement. Not sure why, but with the Onkyo I find myself getting into the action on screen a bit more. This may take some investigation.
So far, so good. But I will say it is large, quite large but fits in a normal slot for AV furniture. So far, highly recommended.

Output Voltage

Question - what's the preout voltage rating for this unit? I am considering the unit as a prepro for my amps.

I think I paid $650 for my 809 and it's slick. The interface is nice and the network functions have a good looking GUI and the Android app works nice. If I wanted I could stream music from my phone to the receiver over wifi and or control it from my phone.

The 09s also have a built in cooling fan to help keep them cool. I'm using my 809 as a pre/pro for a pair of Emotiva amps driving my mains, my center, and my side surrounds and using the 809's internal amps to power my rears. I cant test the tuner section because where I live I'd need a 20' antenna. So far only the disappointments are that Onkyo stopped including a switched outlet and their 12v trigger is zone 2 only.

I grabbed one for $460 a couple months back on Amazon, with full warranty. Now I'm thinking at that price I shoulda grabbed a couple more...

Any word on how the HQV Vida chip performs with SD content? Upscaling/De-interlacing DVDs to 1080p? I havent come across a thorough review of this receiver..thats why Im asking...Im also about to purchase this 2nd hand off a fellow on a different forum for a mere $450...in Canadian terms that CHEAP!

You think this receiver is worth it today to Upgrade from an older Harman Karon AVR635? I can get it for $200 (and of course I can sell my 635 after that). I was hoping for the auto EQ feature and to offload the TrueHD and DTS-HD from my HTPC to the receiver instead. I do have 3 subwoofers so maybe I should save more for a newer receiver with newer Audessey and the SubEQ but what do you think?
