I'd take some pics of my rig but I don't want you all to get jealous.

Also BoredsysAdmin, how is that Mungen working out for ya? I can get it for 20 bucks on sale, but I really don't feel like taking my motherboard out to install it. I'm rocking a freezer 64 pro right now that I lapped the crap out of and it's keeping my cpu under 40 running OCCT. It's not very big, and I want a huge heatsink to increase my epeen.
Taking the mobo out -> It was one of MAJOR reasons to change the case to HAF-922 - with full back access I could switch CPU/heatsink without taking the mobo out, plus 2 huge fans are almost dead silent during regular windows stuff.

Regarding Mugen ver 2 itself - well - it's very well constructed and surface was very well polished, not mirror thou... It's quiet and very good value at it's original $40 price... it looks like Newegg shows the product discontinued - too bad really... My only gripe with it is one of small (custom) screws was missing to attach the heatsink to my mobo [socket 1155]. I had to do some improvisations to make it work  in Overall Newegg reviews are 72% Five Eggs :D

Bottom line - yes , thou I haven't o/c'd yet, I like it a lot and it's a good replacement from TT Big Typhoon

Are you overclocking?

Last time I checked Phenom II X4 810 stock is 2.6Ghz not 3.2:rolleyes:
(Still slower than stock i5 2500k ;))
Much slower actually. :(

My CPU really is the weakest part of my system which is why I want to cover it with something huge, hah. I'm only putting 1.4v into it though and could probably hit 3.4-3.5 if I put another 0.1 into it. The airflow in my case is massive and the only game I play really is BC2. It' so highly threaded that I wouldn't gain much from overclocking any more.

I have a Cooler Master 690 for a chassis, and unfortunately it doesn't have an opening to replace the backplates. I was thinking about cutting a hole in the motherboard tray so if I had to replace the backplate, I could easily. However that would require me to remove the motherboard anyways, so I won't do that until I go with a HSF that will need that.

Is what I would price match to another site that offers a 25% price match special this week. Maybe when I buy my new dozer cpu and motherboard, I will splurge for a larger heatsink.

I finally decided to throw 1.8V into my ram to see if it will run at it's rated speed. It does....hooray.

You would be surprised on how CPU limited BC2 is.

I noticed substantial FPS increases when I tested my system with both single and dual GPU's going from stock 2.8GHz to my current 24x7 OC of 4.1Ghz. I'm sure BF3 will be similar in the way the CPU scaling is, as it will be using the Frostbite 2 engine.

Cograts, I'm yet to discover the limits of my system...
Good luck....I toyed with my i7 for about a week when I first got it and got it to 4.6Ghz, but that was balls to the wall with more voltage than I was comfortable with for 24x7 operation, unless it was on water...

Thanks,
I think I bought more than decent ingredients : Asrock Extreme4, i5 2500k,CORSAIR XMS 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2000 (PC3 16000) Desktop Memory Model CMX8GX3M2A2000C9 and a Scyte Mugen2 cooler...

I wound humbly expect 4.2-4.3Ghz out of it without too much hassle... plus I'd fully expect ram to work at 2000 :D

I know my GPUs aren't not quite up to the mustard of top system nowd ays, but hey - better than older single 4870 and they there cheap (I can't tell you how cheap..., think REALLY cheap.. :D)

The benchmarks I've seen show little increase in FPS when going from a Phenom X4 970 to an I7 2600k at anything above 1280X1024.

http://www.guru3d.com/article/core-i5-2500k-and-core-i7-2600k-review/21

is an example. The 2600k is a much faster CPU than the 970 and they're pretty much identical. The GTX 580 is the bottleneck at that point. Most likely from the higher settings of the Guru3d article.

How is this for irony? My Linux box prints fine, printer sharing is turned on, set to broadcast, Macs can't see it, Linux uses CUPS, CUPS was written by Apple:confused: When print sharing is turned on with the macs, they see it fine and so does the Linux box. Very confusing. I hate issues like this.

I prescribe 355 cc's of beer.

P.S. I purchased a Corsair A70 this weekend, once I get it and install it I'll post some pics of my rig.

No to say windows box won't such problems, but atleast to fix this I would need to recompile kernel :D

Nice one - direct heat-pipes and good price. I kinda feel bad I missed this one :(

Screwy printer issues like this are always hard to solve. It usually ends up being what you least expect too.

The 5770's in crossfire are still an extremely powerful combination....faster than a 5870 in most cases. Like I said I have a single 5770 in my secondary rig and I have no issues running games maxed out @1080p. Not to mention it being nice and quiet and having the ability to send HD audio to my reciever....that is once ffdshow gets their act together...

At higher rez you will start to see a really bad bottleneck IF you have a dual core in BC2. The way to test this is by lowering your rez all the way to minimum and see if your FPS stay they same. I recently started playing Witcher 2 and people with even highly clocked dual cores (4GHz+) are bottlenecked badly in that game.

Corsair makes awesome products and has amazingly good support. I love purchasing products from them.

Maybe the CUPS are too small. Try increasing the variable to maybe a C++ or a D maybe?

Recursive virtualization

The following shows a Suse Linux Enterprise Desktop host running Windows Server 2008 and Windows XP in Virtualbox, and XP again running Ubuntu in Virtualbox....

Not sure how useful this is and in practical life noone would really do this, but I find it a bit interesting....

OMG Virtuception :eek::rolleyes:

You forgot to mention 2008 has citrix client open so technically it's another virtualized desktop :D
