I have relented and we now have a new family member.

Everyone meet Fergus:D

Our friends rescued him the day before he was going to be put down. After spending some time with him we decided he would be a good fit for us.

Besides how could you turn these faces down.

That is one happy little girl. He comes home Saturday.:)

Cute. Why was he going to be put down?

I don't know which one is cuter, the girl or the dog. Your daughter looks like she's gonna be a heartbreaker. I'd put a lock on her bedroom window if I were you. :)

I like the name.....rings true as he is like a much better looking version of Fergie...

Congrats Craig! I hope you enjoy his companionship!

His mug just kills me.
I love that photo too. Just make you want to laugh.

He was dropped off at a Vet and not a shelter and they only keep them for 7 days before they put them down. They don't move them to shelters because there are already so many animals they feel it is more humane to just euthenaize them.

Thanks and I hear you. Believe me when those boys comes to call I will be at the dinning room table cleaning my gun when he first meets me.

Thanks Aaron. The family name in Scotland is Ferguson so we thought Fergus was a good fit.

I don't know why, but when I see commercials for pets and children that are in need, for some reason the pet ones just touch a deeper chord within me.

I have a friend who was a plumber as well as an ex-Marine. He worked on all that heavy duty high pressure steam stuff where the valves alone weighed a ton. When his daughter was young she wanted to date so when boys would come to the home to ask permission, he'd open the closet and I swear take out a dumbbell that weighed a hundred pounds and do some one arm curls. Then he'd turn to the guy and tell him when he could do that, then he'd be man enough to take his daughter out. Needless to say, she was well into her teens before he relented.

Awesome, Craig! They both look very happy!

My son (10) want's a dog that will play fetch and the like with him. Our Chow Retriever mix is 13 and has two bad knees and never really liked the idea of bringing a ball back that you were just going to have him go get again so he wont do it. :D I don't feel right bringing another dog into the house as he is the dog of the house and the two cats (both older than him...) don't count as far as he's concerned so I'm holding off until he's gone. It's killing my boy but I just can't do it to Oliver. He's content in his old age.

Good luck Fergus. I hope loud HT systems don't bother you!:D

Thanks Doug.

I'm a bit worried he is going to be a bit bored when he first comes to live with us. Our friends who he is staying with have two dogs and he has really bonded with them. Guess I'll be having doggy play dates like I did when the kid was small.

Sometimes a puppy can bring new life into an older dog. He can teach the you one the ropes. But you know his personality and whether or not that would work.

Oliver has developed some bad habits (bed and couch napping.) that we are willing to let slide in his golden years that we would prefer he not teach a new comer. I really need to think on it. The boy is at the right age for a dog playmate. He loves Oliver but Oliver is a "let's hang" kinda dog at his age. (like me!:D)

My wife insists that the Fergus will not get on the furniture. I wonder how long the kid will let that last.

He had his checkup and all went well.:) He had his first Lyme Disease vaccine and we got all the heart worm medicine and such.

I'm really hoping Fergus is a "let's hang" dog for me. He can blast around outside with the kid and then veg with me.

I recently relented, but after 8 months it just didn't work out for us and it hurt like hell telling my daughter her doggy had to go....:(.

Next time(if there is?) we'll try the puppy route...
Good luck, Bill...:)

Sorry to hear that Bill. That is the situation I have been afraid of. We have been fortunate that because he has been staying with friends we know where he has issues so there will not be as many surprises.

Cute pup. He wouldn't make it around this cat house but I'm glad he found a good home.

The longest I have ever went without a dog is 6 months and that was after all 3 of my Boxers died in the same year. It took me time to get over that and I didn't want to go through the heartbreak again so I was gun-shy.

Don't worry about the dog being bored, once he has the family all to himself he will love it and he will not miss the other dogs for more than a day or two. (it's likely a she but I am going to stick with calling it a he).

I don't understand people who don't have dogs, something is just wrong with them...
