Amazon Cloud player

I got the update on my phone the other day and when I launched to look for a MP3 track to use for my ringtone it gave me the "upload to cloud" option. This was new, and is basically online storage for media (Not just MP3s, movies also...) purchased via Amazon. You also have the ability to upload but I haven't tried that since I just started using it. The cool thing is, you can stream from the cloud via the "cloud player" or download the files. The files can be downloaded to PC or Android devices (not sure about others).

The basics: everyone gets 5G free automatically. If you purchase one full album, they up you to 20G at no charge. It seem extremely quick so far, though I am not sure if traffic will affect that or not and I am guessing there aren't millions of people using it yet...and sure there will be at some point.

*edit - I just got the email about the 20G upgrade and it says that it is for a period of 1yr after which your account will revert back to the standard 5G or you may pay to upgrade it. If you had already paid to upgrade to 20G, you will receive a $20 credit on your account.

So far, I give it a thumbs up

I think the cloudplayer is pretty cool as well. Amazon has some decent MP3 deals to entice you to try it out.

Still not sure what the hype is. Been doing FTP for going on 18 years now.

Are you just pulling them down from the FTP or streaming them directly from there? You can do both via this. No, it technically isn't something new, just a new take on it. I will see how it goes, but I like it so far.

You can map an FTP directory to a directory in Windows. All you need after this is bandwidth.

I am a HUGE fan of the Cloud Player. I like my FTP server in many cases but I can't do FTP at work because of IT security. I never tried getting on my FTP server with my phone. Also, I have SSL security set up on my FTP server so I need to do special configuration to get it going, I can't just hop on any computer with internet and have access to my music like I can with Amazon.

My favorite thing is that I uploaded a bunch of 320kbps MP3s and they stream at 320kbps from the cloud - no compression. The only problem with that is that when I have spotty 3g connection on the Android, it has trouble keeping up, but on my work computer, there's no problem with that either.

Two thumbs up from me. :D

This sounds exciting. There is also an update with Cloud player, it will support music purchased from iTunes as well, presumably from the post-DRM era. Sounds great to me. :D
