Newb in need of advice.

Hello Audioholics,

As the title says I'm in need some some advice from you experts. I have acquired speakers through out the years, and having not a clue they are all pretty mis-matched.

I'm in the market for a new 7.1 pre-amp and a 2 ch amp for the fronts. Would like to see what you guys reco and hope to do it right this time.

I would prefer Pioneer Elite av receivers since i can get them through a friend for a great price, but if they are utter crap I'm open to other brands.

My current speaker setup:

Fronts: mid 80's Canton CT 1000_ 4 ohm, 20 to 30k hz, 160 watt music watt, 110 watt DIN. think it would best pair these classics with a 2ch amp.

Center: JBL HLS Center_ 80 to 20k Hz, 8 ohm

Surrounds: Polk m10_ 60Hz-24kHz, 8 ohm

Surround backs: Polk m10_ 60Hz-24kHz, 8 ohm

Sub: MTX SW2


Main use: Blu-ray movies, video games and music.

I'm sure you guys get these threads a lot, any help would be really appreciated.

Those are fine rec'rs. No reason not to get one.

The object of my desire is a Denon 4310 for $1,000 street price.
You would have to look into it's ability to drive the 4 Ohm Cantons.

It just occurred to me that I have a JBL MPC200 pictured hooked up in my system here in posts 26 and 28. It's a re-badged QSC pro amp that I did this quiet fan mod to. I still have the original fan and it could all be yours for $165 shipped. I'll even throw in the fancy cable I made up to hook this up with RCA connectors pictured below.

Even with the quiet fan mod I could still hear the fan in a silent room. I only ever noticed it after a movie or CD got through playing because it's a 2 speed fan that starts very quiet when you first turn it on. I'm thinking this amp would have enough power to launch your Cantons into lunar orbit.
