Sounds like you've hit the luck mother load already. ;)

Maybe with the extra money you'd like to buy some nice appliances for the Mrs. :D
You know I think she needs some new surround speakers....;):D

I just realized I had a typo. The price should have read $2202 shipped not $2002.

So the PRO1 should be a touch brighter than the JVC, and it also comes with a free bulb. The JVC will have better blacks since it doesn't depend on a DI, and it will be more accurate with colors OTB when using THX mode. Right? I'm talking HD250, not RS40. The Sony looks like the better buy in terms of saving a few hundred dollars, plus free bulb, and being a touch brighter. I just hope the thing works for a good long time! You can shop extended warranties if you care, sometimes Sony sells em, maybe Mack, or maybe what's it called oh yeah Square Trade. I lucked out on a nice AVS-Mack powerbuy warranty, about $260 (or maybe less in fact) for two free bulbs and 6yr PJ warranty, all inclusive.

Correct, OOTB the JVC will have a better pic but after Cal the review said the Sony had an excellent pic and had enough lumens to watch with ambient light. Nobody in the price range is beating JVC on black levels as far as I know. The Sony has a 2 year warranty and in my experience if things have problems they usually show themselves in the first year of use but I know that isn't always the case.

Cool man. I had to skip back to the first post to see where you are coming from.

You're in for a huge upgrade!!

:D And welcome to 1080p (yes it does make a difference!)

Even if you may be giving up some lumens. At least 106" isn't considered gigantic, you might be just fine anyways there. :)

Well I got it setup and running and my first impression is that I am very happy with the Pic and the brightness. Set up once I figured out how to use the mount that I had was a breeze. I can watch it with all my lights on and I get a great image. I have not done any adjustments or cal yet but so far I am thinking I did good. I will be getting everything back together and cleaned up so I can get avia up and running, I will post back what I think either later today or sometime this weekend.......Dam job alway's in the way...:D

Just an update. I decided to wait until I get about 100hrs on the lamp before I cal it with Avia but I will say that this PJ is awesome. The colors just pop off the screen and it is super quiet. I just keep smiling everytime I watch it. I got about 40hrs on the lamp now so in a week or so I will cal it and let you guy's know what I think then but I am actually soooooooooo happy with the pic I get now it's rediculous.:):):)

My impression is that neither the JVC HD250/HW20 or the JVC RS40/X3 has THX mode or a color management system. I believe you have to go up a notch to the JVC RS50/X7 for THX mode and CMS.

Sony's Reputation

I know that several knowledgable posters have denigrated Sony's reputation. Are they referring to PJs in particular or Sony products in general?
The performance of my Sony DVP-NS755V and my PS3 have been flawless. During the warranty period on my wife's Sony Vaio, it was repaired promptly and without complaint by Sony for problems that she caused, and has performed without problem since then. My criticsm of Sony is their tendency to drop formats like SACD, which is why I have an Oppo BD player with SACD on order instead of a Sony.

They are talking about Sony's customer service. I guess they are not held in high regard but for the price I paid I was willing to take the chance. I sent you a pm with the info on where I bought it. :)

You're right! My bad.

PJs in particular. (There very well might be a pro or two who denigrate their previous RPTVs as well, but not so much their BDPs, computers, disc players, or whatever.) The in house expert thinks that Sony is not so recommended for HT, if perhaps for value related things (and in this case the argument is not as valid), but as far as business class, don't touch them with a 10ft pole. There is one enthusiast here who has a great hatred for Sony HT projectors, but these experiences are probably years old at this point.

that is EXACTLY how i feel about my pj.

and i have seen many "so called" better pj's.

right now, i have other things going on in my life. so i am not being "critical" in my HT experience. but don't let this imply that i am being lackadaisical about what i am experiencing. what it is, is that i am simply sitting back and enjoying the AWESOMENESS that i have.
