It is rare that we have something to announce other than product news or reviews. However, we are proud to announce that our very own Associate Editor, Tom Andry, has released his first book Bob Moore: No Hero. While we are sort of obligated to read it, we weren't obligated to like it. And we do. We love it. Bob Moore, the titular protagonist, is a fairly stereotypical private eye who lives in a world of super powered humans. They started appearing about 30 years ago and now supers have become commonplace. They have their own country and government and Bob, once married to a super, specializes in investigating them. This doesn't make him very popular with the supers but he stays on top through a combination of a few defensive gadgets and his wits. We sat down to ask Tom a few questions about Bob Moore: No Hero.

Sounds great. I had the proof sent to my parents and looked it over through skype. I'm still waiting for the one I ordered to arrive. International shipping sucks.

Congrats Tom! Heard about it on the podcast and downloaded it from Smashwords, but due to eating a lot of red meat lately, I haven't had enough bathroom time to really read anything lately. But a new burrito place opened close to my home, so I'm sure my reading schedule is about to open up :D

Just downloaded it to my Pandigital Novel. I'll check it out. Sounds like a cool premise and you can't beat a free book.

For the impending movie adaptation, I would like to volunteer for any role of henchman, evil villian's assistant, zombie, or otherwise. :D

I will order the paper copy too in the near future, but I do have a couple of books that are ahead in line right now, although I just never seem to find the time to read anymore. :(

I love how this book turned out!

Of course, I'm a teensie bit biased since Tom was kind enough to let me see the earlier drafts in return for some proof-reading :D Still, I think the final draft came out excellent and I'm excited to see what the sequel holds in store!

For anyone who is hesitant to delve into this FREE ebook, please know that it's a fast read and you'll be able to finish it within just a few hours as opposed to some novels that take days or weeks.

It's fun, it's fast and it's really very good. Plus it's FREE! So there are zero excuses ;)

PS - I want to turn No Hero into a screenplay :D

Thanks to all. I got a PM about a Google Books version. Happens that I had been checking that out just an hour or two before the AH article went live. I thought Google would just grab it from one of the many other locations but that's not the case. I uploaded it yesterday and it is still processing. I'll add the link here and to my website when it is live.

And it still isn't showing up on stupid Kobo. Not sure what the hangup there is.

That's slow going. I finished chapter 5 the other day. I'm not sure how consistent I'm being with the voices. It is probably going to be a bit longer. I'm sort of focused on Bob 2 now.

Congrats Tom. That sounds like a fun book, and given what I know about your snarky sense of humor, it sounds like it'd be a fun read.

I like that you said this:
Unlike many other eBook writers, I'm not comfortable self-editing.
Editing your own work is reminiscent of what Abraham Lincoln said about people who represent themselves in court: they have a fool as their client.

Yeah, it is more true to say that I refuse to edit my own work. I'm okay with the creation and the post editing, but the middle part really has to be someone else. I can't say enough about how much the book improved just by having some trusted and honest friends look it over. Sure the grammar and spelling stuff is important but what really helped were people looking over it and asking questions or remarking on what they thought worked and didn't.

Seriously, I have no life.
I have to say that I was appalled by the spelling error I found. It was like someone shoved an ice pick in my eye. Also, the comma that shouldn't have been there made me stop reading for 5 minutes. I didn't know how long to pause.:D

That was interesting and it's easy enough to read that the audience should be pretty varied. Not gory enough that people should keep their kids from reading it and I though it flowed well.

Why did he call her Gale when her name is Wendy- because their past history was too painful for him?

There are a lot of reasons but the one you sited is probably most of it. He uses real names with the other supers to annoy them and show he's got something over them. With Gale, it is more that it is easier to think of her as a super than as the woman that left him.

And any grammar/spelling stuff you can send directly to Rob... written on a flaming bag of poop on his doorstep :D

Honestly, if you spend any time with these free eBooks you'll find yourself giving up on many that have multiple 5-star ratings because of poor editing. I was determined to have people hate my book because of the content/story/writing, not because I don't know the difference between there/their/they're. Rob and others (notably my librarian friend Theresa) really made this happen and I can't thank them enough.

Right- I forgot that he liked to annoy them and that he really hadn't gotten over their breakup.

I'd send it that way but it would go out by the time it got there.

I haven't read many books online because I don't have an iPad, Kindle, or anything like that. If I traveled more, I'd probably get one.
