... he needed a pint a whiskey to make it through a typical day; which was followed by about 6 beers in the evening.
... a light weight then.
Seems like there's quite a few of us with drinking problems in our pasts. If I hadn't been a problem drinker I would have treated my self way better in my youth and would presently have way better gear. ;)

Alex, I'm sure you guys know what you're doing ...
That would be your first mistake. :p I have some small brass grates from floor drains that I'm going to incorporate into the cabinet to make it sufficiently ghetto and to promote chimney effect. I've thought about that stuff and remember reading some of Sensi's links on the matter. I've been thinking about that cabinet for years now. I would have scrapped the project as too much of a pain but won't live with the shame of defeat. The finish can't be applied in foul weather either. I should have gone back there today to work on it but that's not how projects get dragged out for years.

The rope railing will withstand the required weight to meet OSHA standards ... whatever they are. The unobtrusive nature of rope allows for a nice view of the pond's wildlife.
AFAIK, OSHA applies to industrial sites. I'm familiar with such requirements, because I work in such a milieu. However, for residences, the requirements could be different. For example, where I live, there can be no opening in a railing wider than 4", i.e. if he were to build a railing with balusters, they would have to be no more than 4" apart. That's so no wee youngun would be able to crawl out between them.

I can appreciate the desire for an aesthetically pleasing railing. And, if his railing meets the local code, Bob's his uncle! Besides, as I understand it, Americans are very understanding people and litigation would be the last thing to enter a parent's mind if a child should fall from the deck... ;)

There's a road in front of the house that kids can get run over on if the fall doesn't kill them in the back of the house. Besides ... the parts of the deck that don't over hang on water have either stairs or ground to break your fall.
Oh well, that's different! Forget I said anything...:D

The real conspiracy is The Ford Motor Company making my life miserable. I am having the worst time ever trying to fix the fofo @ Eddie's. Thankfully it's all happening at Eddie's instead of in a parking lot. Even worse, without me doing the repair the car might have to be scrapped ... and that would be a shame as I just upgraded it's sound system to being CD capable.

LOL !!! :D I took yesterday off. It's the cat removal that's giving me all the @ss aches so you mentioning a turbo hits pretty close to the heart of the matter. I gotta get over there today. It's pretty warm out and it's still early.
