This is an older receiver. I know I need to update it, but we can't afford it. Anyway, I'm not getting any sound out of it. I ran the speaker test through it, and all the speaks work. On the front display it only shows 2.1, and I'm running 5.1. I'm running digital coax from the receiver to the dvd player. (there is no hdmi). I've looked all through the manual for different connections, still nothing. I did a reset on it, still nothing. I've gotten online for different wiring connections. Nothing has worked. I don't know what to do. If anyone knows anything about this receiver please get back to me. Thanks.
You will need to trouble shoot this logically.
The speakers and amps work as you can hear the test tones. Your problem is before the power amp stage.
First see if you can get sound from the radio. Answer no = major problem.
Yes, go to page 37 of your manual.
Connect your DVD player or CD player to the analog inputs. Select Analog on the input set up, in case you have a processor problem.
If you hear sound, then switch to auto or DTS and see if you hear sound via the digital connection. If no the DAC is shot.
If you hear no sound from the analog inputs, connect your player to the left and right multi channel inputs. No sound, the pre amp section of your receiver is down. If you hear sound then the switching section of your receiver is down.
Now I'm pretty sure it was this receiver we had a post about before with this problem. The problem was the headphone detection circuit. Is your receiver showing a headphone connection when there isn't one? If so that is your problem.
Unfortunately the problem with these receivers is not the jack but the detection/switching circuit. This requires the replacement of an expensive board and is not cost effective.
If these tests above indicate a major problem, I would not invest in repair, but save for a new receiver. For a receiver of that quality it has basically used its expected life span, and its time to recycle it.
