Forgot to mention that some of the Mirage speakers @ vanns.com may also be good for a music system. I purchased a pair of omd-5s to use as my rear surrounds. I'm currently using RC-30s as my rear surrounds and movies just don't sound right because the audio from the surrounds is to localized.

Let us know how you like them after you get them set up. I'm thinking the OMD-5's will make excellent surround speakers for the same reason dipoles are good as surrounds.

FirstReflection,
Don't you have (or didn't you, at one time, have) a pair of RC-30's?
They are a very good tower for $400/pair.
What are your thoughts on a how pair of RC-30's would compare to Ascend CMB-170SE's paired with his sub?

Thanks,
Kurt
Naw - I still have the RC-Mini and RC-Mini-C speakers. Never owned the RC-30.

I had no idea the RC-30 were available for $400! That's definitely a steal! I really, really hate what Klipsch did to all of the API speaker brands. Athena disappeared pretty much completely, Energy got taken down to a budget brand and Mirage has almost fallen off the radar. What a horrible waste :( And now Audiovox is sweeping in to kill off Klipsch and Jamo too. Such a shame :(

Anywho, for $400, it'd be DARN hard to top the RC-30 for towers! I'm a huge, huge fan of that Ascend tweeter - a real bargain in that price range. But I'd have to give the nod to the RC-30 over the CBM-170SE in an overall sense. Not that it's as big a difference as the original $1200 vs. $360 price gap might lead one to believe, mind you. Those CBM-170SE are darn good little performers! Can't play as loud though and can't go as deep. Although the RC-30 don't exactly troll the depths of bass or anything :p No contest in the looks department though. The CBM-170SE are VERY plain, black boxes.

Out of that list of choices that the OP mentioned, I'd be recommending the Behringers all the way. But with that RC-30 pair for $400 out there, I'd have to agree with jumping ALL OVER that deal!

I'm located in Canada and Vanns won't ship to Canada so I had them delivered to a friend in Chicago. I'll be going to Chicago next week to bring them back.

I'm currently looking for decent 36" stands to go with the OMD-5s but there aren't many in Toronto for a decent price.

I'm not sure if they (Audio Advisor) ship to Canada, but maybe you can find these near you.

Hi all, looking to upgrade my 24 year old floorstanding speakers. The budget is about 300 to 400 for the pair.. So I understand that my choices are limited. It is preferred that I buy floorstanding speakers. However, I will gladly take suggestions for bookshelf speakers.

I have looked in to a few towers including Pioneer FS51, and Energy Cf-30 but I am honestly not sure what I should invest my money in.

Thanks
Why not a pair of (floorstanders) PSB Alpha T1's or for bookshelf PSB Alpha B1? The T1's I have seen for about $450.00 and the B1's about $250.00. Saturday Audio, in Chicago but they ship, has a demo pair of B1's for $199.00.

WWstereo deilvers to Canada. I dealt with them twice already and have nothing but good things to say about them. RC-50's for $269 ea, and the Can dollar is rocking right now too. If you call, ask for Ira. Here is the link [RC-50 @ wwstereo]
.
If the link gives you static, just to to wwstereo.com and navigate to floor speakers.

In case you aren't aware, those speakers come with one of the most compact and simple wall mounts I've ever seen. It may not yield the absolute best sound, but I plan to mount mine higher up and upside down (as recommended by Mirage for the surrounds) to get them completely out of the floor plan.

Thanks for the link. I added a pair of RC-50s to my cart and the shipping to Toronto was $210 via USPS. I'd probably have to pay duties and taxes as well.

Excellent price for the RC-50s but I'm using a pair of RC-70s for my front l + r.

I can't wall mount my speakers due to the layout of my listening room and this is why I decided to going with tall stands and the OMD-5s.
