Analog displayed on Yamaha RX v367

Greetings again.

i have the unit wired to a comcast digital box and a Sharp HD tv. i use the red and white rga cables for audio since the digital box doesn't have hdmi outlet.

the receiver displays ANALOG.

does this refer to the video or to the audio? how if possible do i or should i change that and how?

That refers to the audio input. because that's what the red and white cables carry. That's all they carry.
The sat box should have a digital coax or optical output which would give you a digital, and in many cases a 5.1 signal. you would need to set your audio input to "auto" or "digital" to make it work. Most likely it's already set to auto out of the box. Hook the digital cable up to the corresponding input that the red and white cables go into. Most likely HDTV.

Nono thanks. my comcast digital box is tiny and has these connectors:red and white and a small white female that says av/tv is that the digital cable outlet?

No digital audio out on that thing.
Again, not familiar with Comcast; Are you paying extra for digital tv?
If so you're only getting half of what your paying for.
The digital video will go to the TV, but a big bonus in digital is the sound.
I'd check with Comcast and ask about a STB with all the bells and whistles, including HDMI and digital audio.

You're missing out on alot.

A possible option is, if the TV have a digital audio out, to connect that to the receiver.

That's good. Is your TV HD? If it is, you'll also see a BIG difference on the screen, with HDMI Cable. Along with the sound. I'm sorry, I just looked again. I can't believe I missed it, that you do have an HD TV.

Get Comcast to bring you an HD box, and get the HD programing.

Then, connect HDMI-out from box to input on the receiver.

Then, HDMI-out from the receiver to the input on the tv.

Do not send to tv first. You are doing it backwards.

Try changing the receiver to that input.
Again, have the input set to "Auto". You'll need to go into the manual set-up to do this.
