'scuse me?
Where is the bad advice you speak of?
Everywhere in the thread.

No one informed OP to have Comcast bring an HD box.

Why-in-the-heck would someone buy an HD tv, surround speakers, HD avr, and use the cheapest box available?

And why would anyone try to inform the OP how to connect this POS box. Even if the OP doesn't want to pay for HD programming, he has the wrong darn box.

The HDMI cable is already included with the cable box. But, you will need another HDMI cable, if you jump from Box, to Receiver, to TV. If you run the HDMI cable directly to the TV, you will need a Optical Cable to run from the cable box to the receiver, if you want sound from the receiver. If you run HDMI from BOX to RECEIVER to TV, that HDMI Cable is all you need, for both picture and sound. Sorry the the 'ring around the rosy'.
^^^^Same question.
You apparently didn't even read the thread before you replied.

The OP has the wrong cable box, which makes your reply useless as well.

I see you figured that out while I was posting.
Make sure the box is the DSX-3400. :D

I guess your the one that didn't read it correctly. Check #8. My VERY first response was for him to get the DSX-3400. I was just reminding him. GEEEZZ, So let it go.

You have HDMI going out to the receiver from the TV?
Try changing the receiver to that input.
Again, have the input set to "Auto". You'll need to go into the manual set-up to do this.
Nono i don't have a clue since my receiver has under setup: input rename only for setting up the ports.

You need to reread my posts.
After discovering that the box was lame my advice was to call Comcast about a new one.

My reply was general, and not directed at any member specifically.

At the time of my reply, the OP was at the point of running HDMI out from his tv to the receiver. Without any other HDMI connection. Even though this was not your recommendation, the OP had it ALL wrong.

Again, I see no point to invest in HD equipment witout the intent of getting an HD box. Makes 0 sense.

Scientific Atlanta Explorer 8300HDC using HDMI is the box that will make the most out of the equipment involved. Absolutely pointless to do, or recommend anything less.

Once you get new box my advise on HDMI from TV to receiver will be irrelevant.
As was stated previously; run the HDMI from the Comcast box to the receiver via HDMI, then from the receiver to the TV via HDMI.
The price to be paid on this set-up is the fact you will need the receiver on at all times for TV viewing.
Another option is to Run HDMI from the box to the TV and digital audio from the box to the receiver.
This will allow you the option to watch TV without the receiver being on if that's desirable.
