connecting 7.1 multi-channel analog out to 6-channel A/V receiver

I'm new to this forum so apologize in advance if I did not fully explore all the threads which may answer the following question:

I just bought a new blu-ray player with 7.1 channel analog outputs that I want to hook-up to my old Yamaha RX-V1000 that has a 6-channel analog input - pretty straightforward except for the twist that the RX-v1000 also has a rear center pre-out that I would like to connect to a NAD 320BEE to get 6.1 surround. Two questions:
1. The rear center pre-out is a single jack and the the NAD main-in is two jacks(L/R); Do I need to get a Y to take the single rear-out to the two NAD main-in's, or do I just use a single interconnect to go to either the L or R (assumption here is that the rear center channel is mono?), and
2. Will the 7.1 out to 6-channel input even utilize this rear center speaker since all signal processing is now controlled by the blu-ray player?

Thanks in advance for advice!

First step: Get hold of your manuals.

1) You will only be sending one channel to that NAD. Initial response is to only use one channel. Guaranteed to work.

1b) But, some NAD units are "bridging friendly. Check your manual to see if yours is. If it is, you can utilize both channels if you follow the instructions.

2) As for your BD player, you can only utilize 6 channels with your current setup. Check it's manual and see how it can be configured to only send out 6 channels, plus the sub.

They know that not everyone has a full 7.1 setup, so you should be able to go into the speaker configuration in the player and tell it you only have 6 channels so that it will not process the 7th. If you leave it set to 7 and only connect 6 channels, part of the sound will be missing from the rear channel on BDs because the two rear channels are discrete as opposed to DVDs where the two are matrixed, not discrete.

Thanks very much MarkW and J_Garcia!
The yamaha manual is close to useless for this except to say to take the pre-out center to the main-in on another amp and says even less in regards to potential for the 6-channel inputs. I will check BD setup for the 7.1 - 6.1 config. and check the NAD manual for bridging capability. However, I am not sure what using both main-in channels will accomplish here.

If the NAD can be bridged you'll deliver more power to the speaker connected to that unit. If it's not (or cannot be) bridged, no biggie. You'll still have enough juice for it to work fine. Just use one (either) channel. I just figured if you have the capability and can use it without buying anything else, why not?
