Home Network Upgrade

Hey guys, i'm upgrading my wireless network at home. The big thing is I need wireless printing because everyone has laptops. Right now, I'm using this:

It's worked great, but from what I can tell, has to be hooked up to a PC. The manual shows it setup that way and I've never been able to figure out how to set it up any other way, i.e., just having the printers hooked up have it on the network wirelessly... the way I assumed it would. If anyone knows how to have it just connected tot he printers and not the pc, that wold be great and I wouldn't buy a different one.

I've changed the house around and now the printers are in a different room and the old desktop has been donated... so now... i was thinking this will work:

I figured I'd upgrade my wireless router while I was at it and was looking at this:

I have the normal cable TV style cable coming into the house for internet which connects to a proprietary modem/router thing which then connects via cat5 to the wireless router to push the signal out.

Thoughts?

Haha, I was going to recommend this.

Anyway, this is not just a print server, it's also a router, so you don't need to buy a separate router. The WNDR3700 is a good router too though - I have one.

Well the problem is, the cable comes in the main room... the printers are in another room.

Also, do these newer routers have the ability have you log in and schedule users by IP? I mean, if I want my daughter's interenet access or Facebook access to end at 10pm, is that something you can do via the router?

Ah. You could always run a cable from the modem to the router in the room with the printers.

I'm not sure if you can schedule time/access by ip or mac address with mine (i'll check when I get home), and I have no idea about the asus.

I'm not too concerned about having the second router for the printers. It's not worth the hassle to run a cable. I have really high cathederal ceilings and it's nearly impossible to route any cables.

If I could just figure out how to run the existing print server with out the LAN Connection to the computer, I'd just keep what I have. But in any event, I for $50 or whatever it is, the ASUS unit should work then I guess. I just hate dealing with network stuff because there's always some snafu that takes hours to figure out.

Yeah. Anyway, I took a look at my router config page, and it does look like you can disable various internet services/games/protocols at specific times (and days) on individual ips or a range.
