Connecting powered sub to receiver

Hi gurus,

I'm trying to connect a Velodyne impact mini sub to an Onkyo ht-s3300 receiver to replace the passive sub it comes with. I have 16 gauge speaker cable and a 600SW subwoofer cable... I don't see an LFE out on the receiver and see all sorts of wired ports on the back of the sub that may or may not be able to connect properly to the 2 sub ports on receiver.

Is this even possible... rr am I overlooking something simple? Thanks for your help!

No, you need a receiver with an LFE out.

Ah I see. Thank you for the reply! Do you think the sub is worth keeping to possibly use on a custom built system later? Someone told me it was a good one. If not I can just try to sell it or something.

How old is the receiver? If you just bought it, I would consider returning it for something that has a sub output that's not speaker level.

If you can't return the receiver, keep the sub and upgrade the receiver when you can.

Thanks for the advice. Makes sense... I will go ahead and return the receiver. Stand alone receivers are quite pricey. Any recommendations on a receiver and 2 speakers that will work with the sub? My studio is only 550 square feet, 2 good speakers and a sub will hopefully sound pretty good.

Keep the sub and change the receiver. What are your main speakers? What is your budget? A decent entry receiver will run you about $500.

Main speakers... I don't really have, this onkyo was a home theater in a box type deal. So 2 decent speakers and sub with a receiver will work just fine I think until I can save up for the rest.

Yes, that will do fine.

if you need on the cheap and would consider used, this from a forum member isnt a bad deal for a step up.
