Need some subwoofer advice

I auditioned some definitive tech gear this weekend
BP7006 mains
clr2002 center
bp2x bipolar surrounds
supercube 2

I have to see what i would be paying for the supercube since they are discounting everything pretty heavily.

Seeing that the def tech subs are pretty pricey what would be a good replacement if i decided to go with the speakers and leave out the sub?
I have looked at some stuff from SVS and HSU but im sure there are other companies that might be good.

The room is 13.5 x 14 with 8 foot ceilings.

Is the small size a factor? SVS has their sealed NSD up for preorder that I am sure is going to cost a lot less than the SupercubeII and sound great as well.

That's the total size of the room and everything that it's open to? Because 1500cuft is about the size of a medium-small bedroom. If that's the total size then there are a lot of great choices. SVS's PB12-NSD or PC12 NSD, Hsu's ULS-15, eD's A5s-300 or A3-300, or perhaps the upcoming Epik Legend. Any of those (except possibly the A5s-300) should comfortably handle double that cubic footage as long as the windows and doors are closed. In a space that small I'd be looking for a small space saving solution like a front firing sealed sub (Hsu ULS-15 or eD A5s-300) or a cylinder sub. But another consideration is neighbors. I wouldn't want a rear ported or side firing sub sub pounding on a shared wall, and I'd be careful to avoid shared walls and to put a subdude under a down firing sub.

My larger concern with a room that small would be bipolar speakers. I'd ask the Def-Tech experts if they feel you have enough room to let them puppies do their thing. I don't know - that's why I say ask the experts. But I thought you needed 2-3 feet to the back of them and 3 feet on the sides. Again I don't know so ask the experts on here.

Size of the sub isn't a concern nor are the neighbors. I was considering not doing the bipolars but with the discount they are cheaper. I havE plenty of room on the sides but behind them I might not.
The room has two openings. One to the kitchen and one to a small hallway.

A'gon says retail is $900. Get an Epik Empire which will cost about the same and will easily murder that thing. It ain't exactly small though...:) Or wait for the 12" version, the Legend, which is coming soon.

So it's safe to double the dimensions and call it 3000cuft? That's about the size of my master bedroom and I have a ULS-15 in there. I'd describe it as extremely precise (15-200hz +-1db) and ideal for music. On the other hand even though it plays comfortably dead clean and flat down to 15hz - the rumble (distorted bass?) that many expect from going to the movies isn't there. Just clean bass and impacts. Perhaps if I ran it a bit hot that would be different. But you can sure feel low low low subsonic organ notes rattling your bones.

Any of those I listed above should handle 3000cuft although you might want two subs if you go with a sealed 12" like the A5s-300.

I am also looking into aperion speakers. The system i was looking at comes with the bravus 8d subwoofer but i can always build it without it. would the subwoofers mentioned be ok with aperion speakers

What is the model number on that one? Im looking at an aperion setup as well now since i dont have the space for the def tech bipolar fronts. The aperion system Comes with the bravus 8d but they suggest upgrading to the 10d if i want more bass. So im looking at just going with a different sub all together. Im also not against doing 2 smaller subs if that would work better.

PB13U.

Call SVS and ask them what you need for your size room and any constraints you have. They have the best Customer Service of any company I have ever seen.

Just spoke to them they recommended the PB10-NSD but recommended upgrading to the PB12-NSD if i really wanted to crank it.

Im going to speak to epik and hsu today and see what they are recommending for the size room and then make my decison.
Im also going back to audition the def tech stuff again but change the fronts to something non bipolar and see how i like it. I would be listening to it with the supercube but wouldnt go with that sub since im looking elsewhere

If you want a SuperCube, contact David and see what he will sell you one for. He has a lot of other DT stuff for sale too.

I am not married to the supercube at all. If i can get a better sub for less i am totally for it and from what im reading i can. Its just what they have in the showroom to listen to so if i look into different def tech fronts thats what they would be paired with. Or i can just order the aperion setup i am thinking of!

My rule of thumb is to always go with the "really crank it" option. It's a lot easier to turn down a sub that's more than you "need" than it is to turn a too small sub up beyond 100%. ;)

Yes I was planning on going with the svs 12 either way its a no brainer. Im going to see what Epik and HSU come back with and then decide on the aperion system without the bravus sub or the def tech stuff without the bipolars.

You are lucky, SVS says I need 4 Ultras and I agree but two was hard enough to get past the wife.
