Looking for the most for my money and since i havent heard any of these subs, and going off of word of mouth and opinions, i was curious for those who have heard these subs what their opinion is. I know the ED subs are supposed to be ugly, im ok with it, as the fiance got her dream ring, i will treat myself to my dream sub ;)

Thanks Tommy

I would take the benefits of dual opposed over a single driver any day of the week.... Not a huge fan of eD but to each their own.... Also not a huge fan of Ported myself either.

4 x 15" drivers and sealed.... that would be quite impressive in the medium sized room 2800^3 room... My vote goes to the Dual Emipres.

Your room is close to square so I'd definetely prefer the dual Empires to help with room modes and even out the frequency response.

Not me personally but I've been around long enough to read complaints from others. I definitely lean towards sealed subs... personally I prefer not to have a port contributing in any way to the sound signature presented, I prefer a driver system that retains its air spring/driver loading. I also like a manageable, heavily braced cabinet size, where the rear wave is isolated from the front wave. For my bass reproduction I'd rather not hear the subwoofer, just the sound...

Mostly I have built my own subs but my first addiction started with some heavy duty subs, SVS PB12-Plus/2's big ported dual 12" drivers...... they could rumble things quite well and had great output but not a ton of detail, kinda tubby, it was after that I bought a small 12" sealed sub from SVS for my son, which was quite a bit more accurate. I thought, hmmm now were onto something - sealed...

Went out on a limb and bought a JL F112 - now this is a sub, tons of power, accuracy, no decay, just excellent high quality clean bass and lots of it for a medium small room.... From that point my obsession began with building my own sealed subs, searching out good high quality car audio drivers. Seemed everyone else was doing it... :)

Its been a great learning journey, I actually have a new Submersive on the way, same design as the Empire, dual opposed to replace the F112.

Oh you can still hate me more, I still have to finish building the as of yet un-named subs....:cool: I think I have to start a thread to figure out a name for them....

hmm... Here i thought people generally had good experiences with ED... I was pretty set on the ED, but now im not so sure. The one thing i like about epik is that they are close enough if i have a problem i can drop the sub off myself as i live in a southwest chicago suburb. I just dont like the idea that i cant hear either sub before dropping that type of money. I feel blind and deaf. Unfortunately opinions are like a-holes everyone has one... lol Not saying those have responded are right or wrong, its just hard to make a decision without knowing. Any owners of the subs mentioned above?

I'm sure the Empire is a great sub...too many happy customers for it not to deliver.

However, I own an eD A7s-450 and LOVE it. I listen to mostly music, tho action movies equal about half my movie library (currently between 350 and 400 DVD titles). Amp performs perfectly and the sub plays loud and low...with no discernible strain in my listening room even at reference levels. ACDC, Metallica, Diana Krall, U2, The B.E.P.'s....you name it...the sub cranks and doe sit without drawing attention to itself. I have only heard an Empire briefly...and not in my listening room. It sounded great. BUT, eD is beyond forthcoming about what their products can and cannot do, and I appreciated the openness of the eD staff in discussing what sub they thought would be best for my room. The A7s-450 was also ~$140 cheaper than the empire due to shipping being free. I'm very pleased.

I think I should add that it's not like you could make a bad choice here...you are attempting to choose between two of the top contenders in the market right now. ;) Honestly, whichever you go with, I'm sure you'll keep and be happy with.

If your close enough to them, couldn't you head over to Epik for a listening session ?

Contact them, I'll bet they would be happy to give you an in house audition.
Worth the journey if your dumping the money IMO....

I think I am going to shoot Epik an email and see if I can hear the empire before making a decision. Thanks for all the help guys!

Good luck, but I think you'll be disappointed unless Chad has changed things around. It's an office and warehouse where they test, manufacture and ship. No show room or demo area, at least, that's was told others that applied. I think it's appointment only for customers picking up subs.
