I just got off the phone with Alex (over an hour at least), he gave me the whole rundown. You guys sure had a great time. I wish I could have been part of it, but somebody's got to make a living. The way he raved about your system I fell like throwing mine out the window, just kidding.

Let me back up my truck below your window first.:D

We missed you and Gmichael. We also needed a real chef, and a giant egg sub woofer.

Trust me, you don't wanna see those feet. Plus, I'm old enough to be allowed a few eccentricities. ;)
Any post that uses "eccentricities" correctly deserves to be thanked. Heck, I'd thank a post that used it incorrectly....

That Source Technologies is interesting. How do they sound?
In my notes I wrote down that I was listening to bass below F3. What I meant was that I was hearing the bass extend down below what speakers are normally rated at but at a lower amplitude. I thought the drop off might have been on a slope not as steep as most graphs I have looked at. That's a good thing and of course a sub would have given them a nice boost.

Mark Knoffler's vocals sounded like there was a microphone effect ... what ever I imagine a mic'ed voice would sound like. I don't want it to sound negative but kind of bullhorn-ish is how I would describe it. On Chris' omni polar rig the vocals sounded completely natural to the point that the bit of electronic hiss that the Money for Nothing intro by Sting has is completely removed.

For a two driver two way I think they did a good job of covering all bases. They would be easy for me to live with and enjoy listening to all by themselves. The fact that they feature a good looking wood veneer and a futuristic top portion once the grill is off makes them very appealing to me.

For the kind of listening you do most of the time they would work well. There is nothing about them that is critically lacking nor is there some feature that would drive you nuts like an overly bright speaker would. However they wouldn't last two minutes with you once you decided you wanted to give 'em hell. Rick had them amped with the Emotiva he got down at the FLA SOTU thing so they had plenty of juice.

It goes back to that 'right tool for the right job' thing. Ultimately my feeling was that the Coherent Pulse is a well behaved good looking speaker.

They are very detailed and present a nice soundstage; more for sitting back and listening to acoustic guitar or sax.
Wouldn't work well for Led Zep or the Blue Man group, or anything bass heavy.
Though I was surprised at the amount of bass they do output, considering the one 7" driver w/ two ports in the rear.

I agree with Rick that, with my very limited time listening to them, that I don't think that they like to slam out rock & roll. Material at a moderate volume is where they probably like to live. Nice sounding speakers and would have liked to try lots of different material on them at various volumes to get to know them better.

What do they cost? I'd like to establish a price/performance value for them. If they are $400 a pair they were exceptional. If they are $100,000...not so much!:D

The Maggies at less then $2000 are a great value IMO and the Digms from a performance & pretty factor were about right at the pricing from a couple of years ago. At the the current pricing I don't know...YMMV. The Epik Empire sounded great and at the current intro pricing is a great value.

I'd like to thank Rick for giving me upgradeitus...prick.:D

$400 ... LOL! ... :D No, Doug. While I'm doing this let me tell you about Santa and the tooth fairy. :p

Rick and Mark both commented that without the Maggies in their way and with a different/wider placement their bass output was increased. Placement wise they were the most compromised but I agree that with those placement conditions they were low man on the totem pole. I would like to give those things a chance with better placement and in a more suitable room maybe compared to a Salk Song Tower (not that I have ever heard one).

Edit: BTW, I didn't get upgraditis at all. I need to do a little work learning how to do some stuff with this new (for me) rec'r but I feel like audio wise it's all proportionate to the scale of our condo. Same goes for the spare room system. I need to do some work to it and utilize some gear that I have kicking around but the scale of it is proportionate to everything else. Hearing about your SVS center on the other hand made me want more ...

That's the point...$400 is way low and $100,000 is way high!:) (BTW, I've seen the Easter Bunny!:D)

I have been dreaming about Darla tapping on the fish tank in Finding Nemo on Ricks Sig/Epik setup.

You too huh? I have been thinking a lol about the set-up we got to enjoy and all of the various reference materials we could have and should have , but there just wasn't enough time, :(. I hope we do this again at some point, and we do it a lot sooner than next year. I feel we are all friends and should make some feeble attempts to GTG more often. I think we should plan an in-expensive over night some where and have a whale of a time :)

Gotcha. I haven't seen that movie but no doubt Darla is hot.

Talking to Walter the other day made me realize that he's heard some killer gear. I think he would really like checking out that Sig/Epik set up.

I wonder if Rick's Integra 8.3 employs any room corrective EQ'ing. Rick mentioned that he's eying the Emo pre-pro and amp set up to drive the Sig's with in the near future. Does anybody have a link to a Sig8 review with measurements?

You do mean with our spouses and separate bedrooms, don't you?

It would be great, but comparisons but the gear would have to be be fairly limited since we would allhave to lug it to one central location.

But, beer and food travels fairly easily.

Measurements...I think these are the same as Ricks: the http://www.soundstagemagazine.com/measurements/paradigm_signature_s8/

I felt the pain as soon as I re-read the post, as long as they are fresh ;)

My little girl is going to be having her first birthday party on the 31st this month. Wifey might be upset if I turn her baby’s birthday party into an AH get-together, but I have already invited a couple of AH-ers & spouses. If anyone else is interested, just send me a PM.
That was a very nice gesture on your part with the invite and all, I hope we see some pics as well.A bit early but a very Happy B-Day wish for your little one, I hope you guys have a stellar day.:)

Oh I'm regretting this already but I've got to stop running around like I'm rich and famous. I'm being called upon to be responsible as opposed to living the dream ... I've got to pass on your girl's 1st b-day party. I sincerely appreciate the invitation and know you're going to enjoy yourselves. I can hear that pig calling me though. It's saying 'eat me' and I wish that I could be more obliging. ;)

I was invited to Rick's after my work slows down, but now I am little affraid to listen to the Sig/Epik set up. When I get back home I might never turn my system on again and I don't see much of an upgrade in the near future, allthough I am eyeing a new center if I can find room for it.

Yikes!

Maybe you should come over to my house to see our tiny set-up. Then you'll be happy to turn on your system.
