Sub.

It was a sealed unit with dual drivers, I too believe it is The Empire series.

I don't know who those four guys are? (pictured on page 2.)
Here's a shot I took personally of some of the group.

I missed a lot of this thread.:eek::)
We made too much food, so we had our neighbors come over to help finish off the ribs and chicken. Ended up being outside late.

Thanks to all for the kind words; we did have a great time.

Yes, that is an Epik Empire sub

Boy, sounds like a great weekend! Wish I'd been there.:(

I got to spend Saturday operating a mini-excavator for a friend, to do some landscaping for him. He'd rented it, but was a bit uncomfortable behind the controls. I'd used one before at my own place, so he asked if I'd do it for him. I have to admit - it's a lot of fun. Sorta like Tonka toys for big boys.

Then yesterday, and again today, it's been raining hard. I mean biblical proportions hard. Love it.

Anyway, don't want to hijack the thread. Glad to see you guys had enjoyed yourselves.

Rick - it appears that you have been holding out on us, with your killer system(s).

Show em the goods

Rick I think its time to reveal your hidden gems, easy Alex :D.
In all seriousness you really should post a few pics of your set-up, it is all done in excellent taste and is deserving of a few pics in the gallery, I think the members would enjoy an up close and personal, especially the sigs. No more holding back ;)

* I knew those neighbors were buzzing around waiting for the BBQ, and I thought they were hummingbirds, I thought about a doggie bag, lol .
J/K of course

Sigs are front ported brother.:D
The Sigs are beautiful , they look like a cabinet makers dream the finish is outstanding, I enjoyed just looking at them, really pretty speakers, and they are rear ported so I believe placement may be somewhat important, :D

Let me see what I can do about posting some pictures.
I've emailed Photo-bucket support, having trouble accessing my account.

Wow....sounds like a great time was had by all. Btw...how hard is it to pull something like this off? Conflicting schedules can be a problematic for everyone, but I'd certainly make changes to accommodate an event such as this in my area....:). Kudos to you guys!

A splendid time was had by all.

Faces were assigned to anonymous monikers that existed only in virtual space, and those faces were stuffed with first-class BBQ fare put out by Rick and the lovely Marie for all to enjoy.

While "the boys" talked audio, music, sports (well, some, anyway) the ladies occupied themselves inside talking about whatever it is they talk about. Mrs W did let on later that they derived more than a few giggles watching us going on and on amongst ourselves about minutiae of the hobby that they ffind infinitely boring.

Later, whe the ladies moved outside, "the boys" invaded the inner sanctum of Ricks multiple listening rooms and Alex brought out wonder after wonder from his magic bag of tricks so we could strip bare the weakness of any and all systems that dared play them. Gotta say, Rick's systems did pretty durn well her and came away unscathed.

We had a lot of great food and drink, a lot of laughs, shared many ideas, much knowledge (not to mention some pretty weird stories) and just generally wrung every good thing that could be had from those few, short hours.

Again, thanks to Rick and Marie for putting up with us and throwing a great get-to-gether.

Glad to see the Northeast Chapter of the Audioholics Twister Team final had an official meet.

Obviously the above picture was at the beginning of the meet.
I'm sure the banana hamocks and baby oil came out later in the day.

(Yes, I'm jealous)

How come Alex is using your avatar?
Actually we're using Adam's avatar. In my case it's an attempt to entice him to return to the forums and give up his everlasting soul in service of juvenile humor.

It seems that Rick was holding out out of some misguided sense of modesty. I think that he didn't want to be viewed as an attention seeking braggart. I did my best to convey the idea that pic's are posted because other forum members like seeing them.

BTW that sub was big for sealed. I mean I haven't seen a ton of different subs but my thought was that sealed was small. Also scale is important here. That room is bigger than mine and I still thought it was a big sub. The Sig8's are also enormous in my view but they look so good that you'd be happy to have them even if your room was a closet.

Here's another interesting listening observation with the Sig8's. Listening to Money for Nothing SACD I noticed that the sound stage was shifted to the right for the vocalist. I'm pretty familiar with that track and noticed it immediately. It doesn't sound bad or anything and I doubt that any normal listener would notice or even know that it's not correct. The odd thing is that it took me a good 30-45 minutes to notice that the speaker placement wasn't symmetrical and centered. That explained what I was hearing but revealed that I don't pay a lot of attention to what I see.

I was really impressed how loud that system could go while still sounding clean. That's where a ton of money goes. I know that there is a core group of guys here at AH that already get this but I'm just putting it all together on a practical level. Every 3db is a doubling of amp output. Think about what the dollar value is of a speaker that is rated at double any particular wattage and like wise for an amp/rec'r. The good news is that if you are willing to give up a little amplitude you can still have good sound at a fraction of the cost. But should you require that kind of SQ and that SPL ... there is no substitute for a fat wallet. Sell the farm or what ever you gotta do because that sh!t is gonna cost.

Having said all that let me point out that we were all good hanging around outside listening to Niles Rock Speakers and I have enjoyed a ton of scratchy popping LP's on an old Pioneer rec'r and Dayton BR-1 speakers. It's all about enjoying music ... some systems are just more enjoyable than others. Rick mentioned that he mostly uses the 2 channel gear in the other room for music.

... and where is Mark? EDIT: I'm a slow poster.

Ok, I've got to ask. Why did Adam stop visiting?
Nobody knows for sure but it was probably something you said. :D

EDIT: I think one of those N/A beers might be left and I'd really like to hear what Rick thinks of it if he'll be good enough to try it.
