Okay, I'm a little confused.

Here are the links to the reviews by ProjectorCentral:

http://www.projectorcentral.com/jvc_dla_rs10_rs20_review.htm

ANSI contrast of the RS10 at 299:1, and the RS20 at 292:1.

The RS10 in Cinema 1 and 2 modes measured 775 lumens.

http://www.projectorcentral.com/sony_bravia_hw15_review.htm

In Cinema mode, using high lamp and the lens's widest angle setting, our test sample measured 830 ANSI lumens (Sony HW15).

ANSI Contrast: The Sony HW10 measured 416:1, which is the highest ANSI contrast we've measured on any LCOS projector, while the HW15 measured 409:1.

http://www.projectorreviews.com/sony/vpl-hw15/performance.php

Color Temp on the Sony HW15 is no more than 71K (worst case) from the perfect 6500K.

However, Projectorreviews has the JVC as brighter in Lumens than the Sony.

So according to ProjectorCentral, the cheaper Sony is not only Brighter than the JVC, but also has Better Contrast than the JVC?

What are the differences with on/off contrast?

I know with at least JVCs, you can use vertical shift to increase your ANSI contrast.

You realize that you are comparing a current Sony to an older superceded JVC right? IF you bought a recent RS10/20 just a couple of months ago from AVS, trust me it would have been a steal. I am talking about about a solid 60% less in price than your link says. ;);)

JVC is on their third gen of this pro series, and by the time you buy, they will be on their fourth. From what I have read, I think JVC gets the edge in both reliability and value, at least going by street pricing. I know that strube here will never ever buy a Sony PJ again, but those are older, lesser models. However, some Sony's are indeed comparing favorably, if only at a glance by myself. I will myself only consider JVC for the foreseeable future, as far as I can tell.

AFAIK, AVS always has the best prices, even with their normal pricing. When they have a sale, you have to hit it hard and fast because the pricing can be sooo good, that they fly off the shelves. Mine was bought on a sale that sold out in 24hrs. One guy was bemoaning that he just wanted to get home from work to make sure on dimensions/setup, but then it was too late. It depends on the sale, some last for couple weeks, some only a day. There are a handful of salesmen, and here is one:

Wow. 60% off MSRP?

That would be nice to get a $8K projector for $3K!!!

So do you just call them up and ask or do they advertise the price?

Call 'n ask. Easiest could be to simply sign up to forum, so you can send them PMs. I've done it sometimes out of pure unbridled curiosity, with no intention of really buying. They sell screens too. I think other things maybe. Keep eyes out for different kinds of powerbuys, like I did with my 2 free bulb + 6 yr PJ warranty from Mack, for something like $235 ballpark total.

On certain sales, particularly the stuff coming directly from JVC (they use AVS to unload), it can take a while for arrival of unit after buying. They sell out before they even get their hands on them. Wait for shipment from JVC to AVS, and AVS to you. I think mine took a solid month, I think maybe even longer than that . . . just FYI.

Wow, 2 free PJ JVC bulbs + 6 yr PJ warranty for only $235? That sounds CRAZY!

I would not mind waiting a month or even two for a 60% off PJ deal!
