I had thought it would be simple to Google, but is was not.

Does anyone know what the new -D1.5 brings to the table over the older -3 in JL's W7 line of woofers?

Sounds like it's dual voice coil vs single from the info in your post.

OP,

which would mean the dual voice coil version can do the single 3 when wired in series and get more power when used in parallel.

From what I can tell, everything about the driver is virtually the same, except that you have a couple more wiring options. This becomes more relevant when looking at implementing multiple drivers.

According to the website, there is nothing new??

The only D1.5 is the 13W7 which has always been the case. All the others (8", 10", & 12") are 3 ohm, though the DCR puts them more as a 4 ohm but that does not matter. ;)

i don't get why they put 1.5 and 3 in the first place ... i mean, i'd understand if their amps were spec'ed as such so they could corner the market (of noobies with cash)

but their amps are spec'ed at 2 and 4.

the JL slash series of amps put out the same power between 1.5 and 4 ohms.

The drivers model at 3 ohms so that's the reason they list them as 3ohm.
