Oh - cool. They are actually cheaper than I thought they would be. I haven't read much about tube amps, though. How durable are they, and how often do I need to replace the tubes (and how much would that cost?)?
Thanks!
Tubes can last for years or break down in a short period of time. Obviously this would not be a problem with a solid state amp. The product literature that comes with the amp will tell you the appropriate replacement stock tubes as well as a variety of others that you can use. You might find it also good practice to clean the tube contacts from time to time. Caig DeoxIT is usually recommended for this.
You can get replacment tubes on ebay or directly from the authorized seller little dot. The little dot MKIII for example costs $35 to replace all 4 tubes according to the product description.
With the MKII and MKIII you are also able impedance match the headphone by adjusting the gain to 3 separate settings. Low(er) impedance headphones like all Grado, Alessandro and Audio Technica it will be best to use the lowest gain setting. With some high impedance headphones like the higher end Sennheiser, Beyerdynamic and AKG it will appropriate to use the higher gain setting on the amp. The Sennheiser HD 650, Beyerdynamic DT880 (600hm) and the AKG 701 come to mind.
