The Dawg Crusher Killer

I agree, all I did was watch the woofer.

I asked Andrew about filling the space with Mineral wool and he said it probably wouldn't do much. I have a bunch so I may just try it.

Different designs. The crazy excursion is just how it works with this unit. The shotgun scene is a pretty good one, I've had a few people (women) become visibly startled by my single F113. When I first got this sub years ago, it was fun to watch the excursion, to the point where you're just looking at the driver instead of the movie. I recommend leaving the grille on so that you can just enjoy the movie.

Oh regarding the center speaker, and if you really care enough (which you may or may not), it could* be worth asking about filling up that space with acoustical material, all around the speaker itself. Then maybe just cover it up with AT fabric.

( Don't worry guys, I told oppman99 about this before hand and this is the reason the cab was free and the charges were for the rest of the gear)

Not about weight to counteract the drivers movement...

You know, you could consider installing some steel plate on the back to counter the weight of the driver on the front. Just a thought...

Well, after living with this sub for 3 days and extensive listening, I can say that I am very impressed. This sub enhances my system in a way no other ever has. Each low passage burst into my listening room as a well defined thud with clean, defined and sudden, explosive power.

I have now moved my ranking of this sub on top; with the Dawg Crusher coming in second and the Servo15 in 3rd. My old SVS stays at #4 as it wasn't nearly as musical as these sealed subs.

I would be interested to see what the Dawg Crusher would've done in a properly weighted box and fed enough power as I think the driver itself was a little better than the JL.

Oppman, take the Dawg Crusher to the next level for us.

Man, I am getting itchy thinking about the second one.

In case you are wondering what that crazy dawg is gonna do next...I am thinking about trying to find some Paradigm Signature S4 and place them on top of the Subs to free up a little floor space. Since they quit making them, I may have trouble finding them in Piano Gloss. What B&W would be a good replacement?

what SVS was it that you used to have? I know S&V magazine ranked the new PB12 plus over the JL F112, it makes me wonder how the PB13-Ultra compares to the JL F113.

Don't remember the model, it was the one with 2-12" drivers.

I would guess that the SVS has more output and the F113 is more accurate.

possibly, they said the svs was better in pretty much every category, and cost less than half of what the JL cost. I've never heard a JL sub that wasn't car audio, so I don't know how they sound, although I'm sure they sound great. But I do know that when I got my 20-39PC+ it was the best sub I had ever heard, that is until I got my ultra 13 and I can't believe how good it sounds. If there is something better sounding out there, and I'm sure there is, I want to hear it.

I'd get the JL Audio subs. It's a lot less work and the craftsmanship is just magnificent.

can I ask where you got such a great price on the JL? PM me if neccesary. I'd love to have a sub the size of the JL, but my room is big enough to accomodate the ultra, so it's not that big of a deal to me, but it is very heavy and not fun to move. I've never seen the JL subs in person, and while the fit and finish may be better than the SVS, the piano black ultra has a fantastic fit and finish as well. But if I had the money, I'd definitley get a gotham, or even one of the new JL F212 subs.

You really need to EQ that sub - you may be experiencing some boomyness which could lead you to believe that the F113 is more powerful then the TC3000 that was EQ'd.
The auto calibration is only a single band of EQ, not the whole range... If your planning on having the subs flanking your console like it looks you will do, you may be able to get away with EQing with an SMS-1....

Just an fyi, the Fathom line of subs will shake quite a bit. I have a lamp on my F112 and when it gets into some powerful scenes or heavy bass music that lamp will vibrate off the sub and fall if I don't remove it first...

So I would advise against placing any speaker on top of it.

You really need to EQ that sub - you may be experiencing some boomyness which could lead you to believe that the F113 is more powerful then the TC3000 that was EQ'd.

You do what you want with your speaker, but I also have some heavy stuff sitting on my LMS boxes and they don't stay put either....

I would suggest just going with the S6's if you can find some...

roofing felt could be used to reduce vibrations.

Lining your lamps with roofing felt might keep them from vibrating
