It might be a placebo effect, Lucas Oil Stabilizer or fuel injector cleaner but I think Dave's MAF trick further smoothed out the throttle response and rough running condition in the Focus. I used an Electronics Wash from my local electronics store.

As long as it was a cleaner that dries without leaving a residue or film behind, you should be good for another several years. It's been a good fix up for everybody I've done it for.

Yeah, i get that those 'wires' need to be free of any residue. They looked clean as a whistle to begin with but 10 years and 160k miles must have deposited some film or oxides on them making it a less accurate air flow sensor that the cleaning solution returnedi to a pristine state. Due to some recent problems with the car I had already been eying and tapping that sensor as well as thinking about replacing the second O2 sensor but this last round of maintenance has produced some pretty favorable results.

I'll post the mpg when I get back from bean town. It's going to be a while so don't anybody hold their breath. Wouldn't want to see some one hurt themselves.

I feel like such a peasant though. I don't even have a garage to park my non existent Vette in ... for my mid life crisis I am reduced to letting my luxurious head of hair grow out ... you baldies ... yeah, that's right ... I said it ... BALDIES !!!
