Well I finally got a sub

I know that you had said the minimum requirement for my room(2800cf) would be the pb12, but the wife saw it and said "NO WAY". The pb10 was even a hard sell. If money were no object, I would've considered something like a Velo or JL, but that is not the case. I am still extremely happy with my decision and will in all probability use it in a nearfield location to get the most out of it.
that's ok billy. i've used the PB10 in a similar sized room, while you could do better, it "can" do well in your room. it's just a matter of how much bass you need.

congrats on the new sub!

Billy,

From this point on you are banned from posting any more posts here at Audioholics. (later this week or at the very least this weekend) This is not acceptable, and definitely not the behavior of an Audioholic.
LOL, it 's those damn children they take up too much of my free time!:D

hum... maybe if my wife becomes more accustomed to pb10, she won't notice if I exchange for the pb12 later:D.

BTW the ultra that I saw was massive and for a moment I wondered what if:eek:.

Do you have a Sedan, Billy P? I'm wondering if the pb10 would fit in the backseat of my 08 Civic sedan.

The entire pb10 package just fit into my back door opening of my 09Camry. The pb12 on the other hand would definitly need to be remove from the carton. Hey Blue if your back from the your vaction and not doing anything this weekend your welcome to come over, just shoot me a PM:).

Well

my BJC's arrived today which enabled me to hook up my system and I finally was able to use my SPL metre. These metres are neat and appear easy to use but for some reason I felt I've missed something:eek:. I started by setting the size & distance(time delay) for each speaker via the receiver before I ran the test tones at 00 db's as instructed in my Svs guide. I then used the metre's 70db setting to measure all my speakers and set each value as close to 75 as I could. I even double checked it at 80 for a more accurate number. However when I started to adjusted the volume level control for each speaker the mains were reading at plus 2/3 values, the centre was slightly off by 1db, but the surrounds were -2/3 dbs off and the sub level starited at -5dbs was turned up to +4dbs in order to read 75dbs on my spl and the gain was set at 1/3.
So I'm compelled to ask this question, do these measurments seem off or is this normal to have a such large variance like this?

Thanks, Bill:)

What Sheep said in post #12 but in all honesty I still doesn't make a real difference when buying A/V equipment.:)

That is what I thought! Don't you guys pay Provincial sales tax in beautiful B.C.? I hate that 13% hit here in Ontario.
We're at 12% total right now. Used to be 15%.

Bill, if by 2/3 off, you mean about 0.7 dB...then that all seems perfectly normal to me.

Bump

My new sub should be out for delivery by Monday...once Nathan has completed all the testing and I'll see if I can post some specs later. Fwiw..the driver is an Acoustic Elegence 12x and I opted for the ported enclouser finished in a walnut veneer...here are some pic's I'd like to share...:)

That looks very sharp! It also looks very compact. What performance do expect, i.e. extension & SPL? What kind of amp are you using?

I modeled it several ways and ported output in the upper teens was 108 dbs:D flat response with with very high spl throughout the 25-60hz range. This driver for the price is very good.

Looks interesting. I am eagerly awaiting impressions/data about performance. Are these for sale by someone or was it custom made for you.

You only got one ?!? :D

It's funny how setting a budget years ago actually costs more in the long run but it allows you time to figure out what you want. That thing looks nice. Next you'll be gushing about how it sounds. Congrat's. :)

you should buy one from a member (no puns) that doesnt need it any more and sell it for twice the price to one of your "friends" and then get 2:p:D

Thanks! The dimensions are 14.4x24x24 so its not huge. When I sold my pb10 I wanted something that could rival the pb12 plus and cost less. The enclosure I'm using was designed more for a slotted port(using a audiopluse lms 12") with an external 1000 watt amp which would better the plus. However I wanted the amp built in, so he needed to altered the design to fit my needs. By going with a 4" port it would be similar to the plus @ 20hz and I'd incur a little port noise at high spl but by using the AE driver I'd saved a few bucks and the 500w amp would suffice.:)

Thanks bandphan for your help...I really did appreciate it!:)

If I get any results I'll post them here.

All I know is it sucks having to work within a budget because I would've loved going dual 12's or 15's if that counts as two...and btw don't worry about my budget upon your visit here I'll use the CC if or when we go to the Brass Rail...

Regards, Bill...;):D
