Super sweet!!

Oh, you even went with the TRP brakes very nice. I see you did not upgrade the cranks. Those Dura-Ace will last forever but I thought you were getting the whole gruppo?
I'm probably going to upgrade the cranks to 2010 Force as soon as I collect the funds. Those cranks are sweet!

I did notice that when I was building it last night, it seemed like my big ring was bent. I thought that was pretty weird, since it only has like 4 rides on it, so I pulled the crank off and then noticed that the little metal nub that keeps the chain from falling between the crank arm and the ring was pushed against the crankarm (like the nub was too long). I had to rotate my rings and now the ring is straight, but I don't have any protection from dropping the chain between the arm and the ring. Other than the front derailleur.

Very nice bike...eggbeaters are the only way to go for cross.

Is that an Easton carbon seatpost? I was practicing tonight and snapped my Selcof carbon seatpost when I was re-mounting my bike after a barrier...not cool, luckily the seat and myself slid forward and then I kinda lost control and bailed.

I'll be buying an aluminum seatpost to replace it. I was chatting to a guy at the practice and he's seen it happen 3 times on carbon seatposts in his 4 years of CX racing.

Maybe I just need to lose a few lbs :)

Enjoy the little movie I made. Yes, it's quite crude.

Steel is real!

I only ride steel frames and Brooks saddles.

Carbon is fine for a fork, but Thomson is the only seatpost I'll
use.

My brother told me today that he bought a Giant TCR Advanced and it made me think of this thread. He's been riding a long time and still rides a lot today so I assume it's a very good bike.

Guys,

Really sweet bikes you have there. Love them both.

Not trying to thread jack but do you guys know of the best place to buy bikes? Up here our shops pretty much rape us so I'm assuming internet direct?

I have a specialized that I really like now, but it's too small (19" frame). I'm 6'3" and need a 21 inch frame I think and would appreciate any advice you guys could give me.

Thanks and I apologize if I'm off topic...

Thanks man,

I'll check out that site. I've also heard of bikesdirect.com, but don't know anything about the bikes they have on there or if they are good deals. Motobecane??

Any input or any other additional sites to check out?

Sorry again about the thread jack.

Looking to drop about a $1K max maybe.

Love that Jamis though... Dayummm!

I have been out of it for a while and only recently got back into it. I just bought a Giant road bike and I am very happy with it so far. Maybe some others can chime in on top bikes. Of course Cannondale, trek, specialized have good bikes, but there many others too.

I got another bike. teehee!

I got a 2011 Jamis Xenith Race, and have promptly stripped it down to nothing (well, I left the stem for now) and have rebuilt it. Pics soon!

Shifters: Red
F Der: Force
R Der: Rival
Cranks: Force BB30
Brakes: Force
Post: Easton EC90
Saddle: Fizik Aliante
Bar: FSA Carbon K-Wing
Stem: Ritchey Comp
Cassette: Ultegra 11-25
Wheels: V-22 Powertap or Zipp 303s or Aksium Race

Yea, that's hot, if I do say so myself. Should be around 15 pounds with the Zipps.

Sweet ride.

I hate rode bikes, I took one look at it and threw up....:D

I am considering getting another MTB but I have mixed feelings. The RM is awesome and can eat any downhill it finds but I have an itch for a <24lb FS bike so uphill is a little easier. I found a demo that is 3k off but I can't decide if I want to spend the money or not.

You know what makes uphills easier? Road bikes.

;)

I used to have the MTB above, but warrantied the frame since the rear dropouts were too wide, then got this instead. KC weather is the ultimate MTB-blue-ball-inducing-climate. We have awesome trails everywhere, but it's usually too wet, 1,000 degrees, or something else is in the way. We have 200+ days of sunshine every year, yet only 6 good riding days.

Thus my obsession with road and cross bikes. I'll get a 29'er soon enough.

There maybe about 20 days a year that you can't ride here.

I was out on our nastiest trail last week, it is a trail that is so rough that if you have less than 5" of travel you won't make it. A guy with a highend Cyclo-cross was at the trail head and I told him that it was a bad idea. He just laughed and headed out.

I saw him 2 miles into the trail with a bent rim and broken frame and I had to say "told ya so".

That sucks. There are limits to cross bikes. Not many, but they are there.

A lot of cross riders don't even mtn bike, they are roadies that race cyclocross in the winter time and there bike handling skills are not the same as a mtn biker.

Locally we have a few cyclocross courses and one is pretty open and really fast, I always get rocked on that course because my top end speed can't keep up with all those roadie cyclocross racers. Another course is tight and technical, lots of twisty turns, off camber turns and approaches, etc and I beat more than 1/2 the people in my class that cream me on the other course. I attribute it all to having years of mtn bike experience where running into that stuff on a mtn bike trail is commonplace.

IMO riding cyclocross bikes on mtn bike trails is not nearly as fun as mtn bikes on mtn bike trails :)
