If you've ordered from Monoprice.com recently check your credit card activity...

Don't most people use Paypal with Monoprice. Atleast that is what I think I used when I bought some stuff from them a few years ago?

Did you use a method like paypal or did you put in your details manually?

This is something I cannot stress enough. When entering your credit card information DO NOT TYPE IT IN. If you choose to pay using your credit card, use windows character map to type out your card numbers and name. It might take a couple more minutes, but if you're keylogged it can save your bacon.

Keyloggers have gotten quite easy to obtain these days, and your should take every step you can to avoid someone jacking yo' keys!

Here is a link from the consumerist. Seems people using Paypal at Monoprice are affected as well.

It would also be interesting the time frame where people are reporting fraudulent charges. Many consumers on this website order from them on a regular basis.

I order from them for the company I work for all the time. I had my Accounting dept check our CC. So far, no extra charges.

I'm a victim.

Yup, my card info was stolen and used 3 times. I think I've ordered from monoprice 3-4 times using the same Paypal ATM/Debit Card.

My last purchase from them was on 2/24/10. The unathorized charges were just made on the 8th and 9th; about $90 total. They were all for online dating sites! :D

And not suprisingly, they all had a "Foreign Transaction Fee" included with them...

I spoke to one of the customer reps today. They said they do not know when they will be back up and running. No online orders, no phone orders, no nothing. So I end up buying some cables from Blue Jeans Cables.

Or perhaps they have some dishonest employee(s) who accessed their database copying the information rather than outsiders hacking their system remotely.
Well a good security system should encrypt Credit Card numbers. It is more likely a sql injection hack or a data packet intercept. One is impossible to stop while the other is extremely hard to stop.

But you never know.

Are any of you guys on the hook for the fraudulent charges?

This is another example as to why when ordering online, it is good to use a credit card because they are backed by the fraud protection. Also, the $ has not yet disapeared from your bank account, so you don't have to fight with your bank to get the money back. With the credit card it goes on your bill so, you haven't lost the money yet.

I looked at my bankd statement and up until today, there was a $10 charge from Fed-X that wasn't mine. As of today, that charge is gone, but now there are two $5 charges for the Playstation Network that posted last night. I know I didn't order anything off the PSN last night.

Here are the latest updates from Monoprice from their facebook page.

SYSTEM UPDATE (Part 1): Our outside investigators have continued to review log files from our Internet-facing servers. They have not found evidence of any successful attempts to penetrate our computer system. Our internal IT staff found some suspicious files on one of our quarantined Web servers while they were revie...wing files to build replacement servers. - Continued -
SYSTEM UPDATE (Part 2): We have identified the suspicious files to our outside investigators so that they can extract the files from the image of our servers that they made earlier. We asked them to let us know if the suspicious files are significant. We will post more information here about the investigation when we have it. - Continued -
SYSTEM UPDATE (Part 3): We are taking steps to re-launch our site early next week. We will not take credit card payments on the site initially but will take payments through PayPal Express and Google Checkout. We will let you know when the site is available. Thank you for your continued support.

I don't know what to think at this time. I don't have the confidence to place an order with monoprice even when they come back online.

Why is it douchebags ruin **** for normal people? Why can't we execute all the of the shitty people on this planet?

I just found an unauthorized transaction on my creditcard from clickbank.com, so I just called my credit card company and am having that acct. closed and getting a new card issued. This won't stop me for ordering from monoprice.com, it could have happened to any site, plus that's the benefit of using your credit card... if there are unauthorized charges, I'm not liable for them.
